What Is Our Carbon Footprint?

Your challenge is to identify local sources of carbon emissions and/or estimate amounts of carbon emissions for different human activities to aid scientists in mapping carbon sources and sinks. How can you inform decisions to adapt to the consequences of a changing world and aid policy makers in making plans for the future?

Save Energy

Summary

Save Energy informs others about the detrimental effects of greenhouses gases on the environment. Through the use of google slides and space agency data, our project provides the necessary information needed to spread awareness about the worldwide phenomenon known as global warming. Save Energy delves deeper into the topic using the programming language, C#, to provide a fun, interactive game that will inspire the players to start being more aware about their role on the Earth.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed a google slide in order to inform others about how harmful greenhouse gases can be. It is important because the state that the Earth is in currently, is not looking very good for the future. This project makes sure that others are more aware about how everyday tasks can lead to some sort of harmful effect on the environment. We hope to achieve the goal of spreading awareness to others and limiting the impact that humans have on the Earth.

We also developed a little game that could help players become more eco-friendly. The goal of the game is to get to a certain destination without creating too much carbon emissions or else the game is over. The farther you get, the more coins you receive and these coins can be used to upgrade your car and make it more eco-friendly so as to produce less carbon emissions.

How We Developed This Project

Our love for the environment pulled us towards this challenge as it would give us the right tools needed for preserving the Earth. Our approach was building a google slide that would give others the opportunity to see the harmful ways that this could impact our planet. Our second idea was to build an interactive game that would allow people to understand how different things in everyone's everyday life would play a role in speeding up global warming. The programming language used for this game was C# and the game engine was Unity.

Achievements:

  • Car model was made an hour into the programming process. (we have one programmer).
  • The first two slides of the informing process was completed. (two people working on the slides).

Problems:

  • Wheels on the car don't work.
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

NASA's information on carbon dioxide emissions and the causes of climate change helped our project be more informative. This information helped our game become more educational and more accurate on how much carbon emissions are produced.
