The2Degrees has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!
We believe that assessing GHG emissions at a local/regional level to inform the climate policy is one of the keys to achieving the two degree goal proposed under the Paris agreement. In our opinion many mitigation actions are to be taken at local levels, these actions need to be well informed and based on things other than the national GHG emission inventory. We have devised a tool, which while developed for Georgia, can be easily adapted to any relatively uniform country.
We believe in informed policy making. While climate change is still controversial educating people and governments is the most direct way to provide for our sustainable future. We are the future and we care. In the project we used C#; SQL; and IPCC methodologies for emission estimation.
We use data from space agencies,
particularly for identification of dumpsites in waste sector that are not accounted for in official statistics and for evaluating the changes in forestry and land use cover to downscale emissions and removals of LULUCF sector. We employed landsatlook as well as EarthData
