What Is Our Carbon Footprint?

Your challenge is to identify local sources of carbon emissions and/or estimate amounts of carbon emissions for different human activities to aid scientists in mapping carbon sources and sinks. How can you inform decisions to adapt to the consequences of a changing world and aid policy makers in making plans for the future?

Vega Carbon Filter

Summary

We have made a map that shows the most important industrial areas in Egypt, and based on it, we thought about creating an air purification filter to be placed at the top of the chimney, and the addition was that we added additional filters to the three-hole filter so that 70% of the smoke comes out from the first two holes and the remaining percentage comes out from the last hole From smoke, which is 30%, so that the filters purify this percentage to produce carbon dioxide, then we collect this amount of gas and move it to the second stage of the project, which is converting it into carbon and then converting it into carbon fiber

How We Addressed This Challenge

We explained the entire project in a video that we uploaded here:

Relative to our challenge that we are studying it carefully so we didn't want our solution to be temporary but to be suitable for different environments around us. so, our solution is simple to be easy access to use and help people to get rid of CO2.

all we are want to see heroes and take them to be our heroes to encourage us and learn from them as we see in videos.

we strive and try to save the world and make it different and special so, how we make the world better? Of Course, by cooperating with each other and save it and avoid anything pollute it without waiting for prizes because who wants to help and cooperate don't wait for the surprises or gifts!

So, we are also cooperating to make our world better.

We found a site (called: invest in Egypt) and there is a map that helped us to locate and accurately locate all places and factories that emit carbon emissions, which in turn helped us to know the average percentage of carbon from these factories.

And through these, we can calculate the carbon percentage that we will reduce through our filter

So what we have achieved is converting chimney smoke into carbon fibers that we use in our real life. We have also reduced the percentage of carbon in the atmosphere, which leads to a reduction in global warming.

How We Developed This Project

After the Corona pandemic, and what we have seen of injuries and deaths in most parts of the world, we saw a glimmer of light behind this pandemic, which is the breathing of nature, the decrease in global warming rates and the healing of the ozone hole. Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide (CO2) and other air pollutants and greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface. Normally, this radiation would escape into space—but these pollutants, which can last for years to centuries in the atmosphere, trap the heat and cause the planet to get hotter. That's what's known as the greenhouse effect. Curbing dangerous climate change requires very deep cuts in emissions, as well as the use of alternatives to fossil fuels worldwide. The good news is that we’ve started a turnaround: CO2 emissions in the United States actually decreased from 2005 to 2014, thanks in part to new, energy-efficient technology and the use of cleaner fuels. And scientists continue to develop new ways to modernize power plants, generate cleaner electricity, and burn less gasoline while we drive. The challenge is to be sure these solutions are put to use and widely adopted.

so our idea is a filter will be used to put it on factories' chimnies and collect carbon dioxide through it into carbon fibers in three stages, which are,

First: Converting carbon dioxide gas to solid carbon by placing the carbon dioxide that was collected from the filter and putting the liquid electrolyte and also putting the liquid alloy in a container

Second: The second will start carbon oxide to interact with cerium in the presence of electricity, which will result from carbon grains that have separated from the surface of the liquid metal

Third: These particles will be taken and converted to carbon fiber, and this will be our required product.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We have used the methods provided by NASA, where we have calculated the amount of emissions that the factories throw into nature, and based on them, we made complex calculations to draw a map on which we define the most important areas in which we implement our project.

we know that Fossil fuel use is the primary source of CO2. CO2 can also be emitted from direct human-induced impacts on forestry and other land use, such as through deforestation, land clearing for agriculture, and degradation of soils. Also from Electricity and Heat Production (25% of 2010 global greenhouse gas emissions), Industry (21% of 2010 global greenhouse gas emissions), Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (24% of 2010 global greenhouse gas emissions), Transportation (14% of 2010 global greenhouse gas emissions) and Buildings (6% of 2010 global greenhouse gas emissions). Likewise, land can also remove CO2 from the atmosphere through reforestation, improvement of soils, and other activities, SO we made the filter to collect the CO2 from the atmosphere to convert it to carbon fibers and put it on factories’ chimnies.

we are also determine the location and the number of factories that we could use to put our filters which collect the co2 and converts it to carbon fibers.

Project Demo

The project can be profitable and be in the business market

Because we can sell filters and get a return on sales

We are also planning to use car exhaust filters later

We can make a profit and our project is able to develop and be sustainable
