Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

Ocean Melting Greenland

Summary

We chose to tell the interesting story of the OMG “Ocean Melting Greenland”. The story is about the danger of melting Greenland ice caused by ocean warming, and how it will affect the earth. It s one of the major environmental challenges, that's why we decided to tell others about it. The story will be presented as a game. This game has no end until the player decides to end it. Each level will represent a scene from the story. For the player to pass the level's he must choose the right answers among the options given to him. This project aims to raise the awareness of sea-level rise and educate people more about NASA's earth science enterprise.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed a new method of storytelling that combines education and entertainment, we will be using a digital tool(build box). People need to be aware of the global problem(sea levels rise), also it educates people about ocean warming and its impact on the environment, on the other contrary, since its part of earth science it will help with understanding how natural processes affect us and how we may affect them. It allows the player to live the mission online, and make him more capable of critical thinking and taking action about crises and natural disasters. I hope that the effect of telling the story in this method will be reflected in the way the players think and make them aware and educated enough to limit harmful human activities.

How We Developed This Project

We picked this challenge because we are interested in earth science, and to zoom in NASA's studies of earth. our approach was designing a game using (Buildbox) Ocean Melting Greenland. We used Vyond to make a prototype website. Jet propulsion laboratory website. and PowerPoint. We wrote an open-ended story because the mission is a 5 years mission started in 2016 and still ongoing and because open-ended stories allow the reader(player in the game) to use his imaginations and hope.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used NASA's data to get more information about the mission, the investigation, and the results. This data represents the claim and evidence for our chosen topic. While doing our research " Greenland Large Melting is early summer" article from JAXA's website helped with understanding the issue more.
