Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

Public And Digital History

Summary

all this scenario may seem like science fiction most of the technologies and capabilities that would be required to build digital earth weather here on the development. of course, the capabilities of the digital earth will continue to evolve what we will be able to do in 2005 will look primitive compared to the digital earth of the year 2020. Computational science satellite imagery broadband networks interoperability metadata potational applications conducting virtual diplomacy fighting crime biodiversity predicting climate change increasing agricultural productivity

How I Addressed This Challenge

planning agencies in the camp pendleton California region predict that population will grow from 1.1 million in 1992 1.6 million in 2010.this region contains over 200 plants and animals that are listed by federal or state agencies as endangered threatened Oriya.by collecting information on soil type annual rainfall vegetation land use and ownership scientist modelled the impact on biodiversity of different region growth plans.

How I Developed This Project

1.physical laws regarding the transfer of energy among various solids liquids and gases determine the surface temperature of all planets.recent changes in the composition of our atmosphere and changing the balance of incoming and outgoing energy for seeing the climate to worm .

2.scientists have a solid understanding of the physical laws that control earth's climate.Deccan characterize different parts of the earth system and the interactions of energy between them as equations and used computers to show the equations to project energy interactions into the future. Systems build to make this projections are cold climate models.

3.as heat trapping gases from burning fossil fuel accumulate in our atmosphere more heat energy and earth system then exists.some portions of the system will respond to changes in the energy balance quickly than others but climate scientist feel confident that future climate will be increasingly different from that of today.

Project Demo

1. Climate forcing energy from the sun interacts with land water and air-earth is continually bathed in energy from the sun. A portion of the energy that arrived at a reflected back into space and other portion is observed directly by atmosphere and the remainder through the atmosphere to the surface.sunlight energy heat land and water at the surface and emmett this he provides further worming of the atmosphere. The mixture of gases in atmosphere keep some of the heat energy from escape, similar to the way a blanket keep warmth via your body this process is the naturally occurring greenhouse effect and it keeps earthworm enough to support life

How hai will radiative forcing be in the future? climate scientists have defined for possible sceneries for the future that they used as consistent input for calculating climate in the future is a scenario is based on a plausible future pathways regarding global emissions of greenhouse gases. The scenery was known as representative concentration pathways or rcps specify the amount of radiative forcing in in 2100 relative to 1750.for more information about r c p s c i t c c w g a r v box SPM .1

2. Climate models how we use modulus-models help us to work through complicated problems and understand complex systems.they also allow us to test theories and solutions from models as simple as stoica and kitchens to complete representations such as flight simulators and virtual globe we use models throughout our lives to explore and understand how things work -result of current climate models around the world different names of scientists have built and run models to project future climate conditions under various scenarios for the next century.the model research project that global temperature will continue to increase but shows that human decisions and behaviour we choose today will determine how grammatical climate will change in the future.

3. Future climate climate change variations in timing-across the globe in response to increases in heat trapping gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere temperature and precipitation changing.the rate of climate change in the next century is expected to be significantly higher than it has been in the past.at our current rate of emissions the intergovernmental panel on climate change estimates that carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere will double or triple during the next century and the climate system will respond.

scientist expect some portions of the earth system to respond more rapid rapidly to the changing composition of the atmosphere than others.for instance the temperature of the atmosphere and the uppermost layer of the ocean are likely to adjust to new conditions more quickly than the deep ocean optics Ice sheet on Greenland and Antarctica.as a result of different response rates scientist credit that regional climate changes will vary. For example climate models project that some areas we'll see more precipitation and others will have less

Using the past to predict the future-why is the climate record has no perfect analogue for the changes we expect as a result of our dramatic increase in heat shopping gases since the industrial revolution we can use climate you and that happened 55 million years ago the PETM as an example of our potential climate future. At the time of the p e t a m natural records (climate proxies) show that concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere rose to 2000 parts per million within the span of 10000 years. Subsequently earths average global temperature rose by approximately 11 degrees Fahrenheit.the result of this rapper temperature increase dept out plants and animals that couldn't adapt to the new conditions

Whether Karan plants and animals will be able to adapt to upcoming changes in climate remains an open question. Justice in past climate shapes some species will flourish while other will struggle simply vanish.exactly how future climate will develop peace and ongoing question one that is begging closely monitored by scientists and citizens around the world.
