Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

Project ISS and Earth Science Research

Summary

An interactive website which informs the story of ISS(International Space Station) from birth to the growth. It is developed to enhance the accessibility of history behind ISS in a constructive way along with the successful researches performed by it.Our project aims to showcase the unheard efforts of NASA and its collaborations with other space agencies or partners, in the field of Earth Science all under one roof. It helps the people to effectively engage about scientific and historical information, and grow their interests in those following fields.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Challenge:

To take a piece of history of NASA’s Earth science enterprise and Inform it to the people using interactive digital tools.

What did you develop?

We developed an Interactive website with a timeline showcasing the ISS(International Space Station) history and development, along with its research work on Earth Science.

Why is it important?

To understand Space Science, it is important to understand Earth Science.

Our project helps people to look at the big picture of NASA's research work of Earth Science which made the great impact in the field of Space Science.

What does it do?

It spreads the Information about ISS(International Space Station) with a constructive and interactive webpage showcasing the Development and Research work of ISS all under one roof.

How does it work?

It is built in a way that the user can interact with the timeline of construction of each module in ISS and get the information along with position of that module, in extension with the Successful Researches performed by the ISS in its establishment stages.

What do you hope to achieve?

We hope to achieve a better platform to direct the people to inform the Scientific work that is being done, in a effective and understandable way.

How We Developed This Project

We as a team are always passionate in learning and growing together and this project fits in well with our ideals. We started our work by dividing roles among ourselves and were operating in 2 sub teams: Research and data gathering team & Development team. The project was developed using HTML, CSS, JS and UNITY 3D Engine. The biggest problem we faced during development was of finding the information from the massive systems of NASA. The biggest achievement for us would be the knowledge we gained through the development cycle and the essence of teamwork. Another win would be the fact that we managed our time and given resources well and produced the best we could. This is a prototype and we have many plans for full scale development.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We have referred various resources to get a good depth of information on our project ISS, to make it informative and crisp.

We summarized the collected articles informing about the research performed by ISS.

Our main goal of the project is to give detailed information in chronological order of the development of international space station.
