Our project aims to increase awareness on the COVID-19 pandemic and NASA's ongoing efforts to help with research that ranges from grants to data analysis tools in hope that with the increased awareness we as community can use the data to help with our daily life like avoiding spread hotspots and help the scientific community by providing them with data that will help in their research efforts.
The website works by have different sections each with its own theme, like COVID-19 precautions, NASA efforts, etc. , each sections is also interactive which assures that the user's attention is always with the website. the website also includes an interactive game and videos to help entertain the user while educating them.
We hope that this website can inform and educate people on NASA's efforts during the fight with COVID-19 while echoing the message that professionals around the world have been sending out about precautionary measures.
As students of the STEM school system, we are naturally interested in science and scientific news and we've been following NASA's effort since the lockdown orders and we were very happy and excited when the Space apps challenge started since we had the perfect idea to showcase the diversity of NASA's influence over our plant and their great efforts in this fight against COVID.
We started development with the goal of creating a diverse website that provides a lot of information and presenting it in an easy and digestible form to understand while keeping them interested in the contents.
We started development on the website using HTML and CSS which are the standard coding languages for web development, we used libraries like jQuery to help ease the development of the interactive content .
The main challenge was providing the data in a way that is both easy to understand and keeps the users interested while maintain a streamlined and formal look, we went through multiple designs that incorporated multiple features like flashing cards and interactive reading and paired them multiple color schemes we tried multiple colors but in the end we settled on a bright color schemes that utilizes a reasonable amount of colors to give it a more positive vibe.
We had to find resources that provide us with extensive amount of information. NASA’s website was our first choice to get the data that we need. We also integrate the NASA COVID-19 Viewer map into our site. This will help all our website visitors to know about the number of cases and deaths in each country. They will also know what countries are the most affected by COVID-19. As the map represents a reliable tool to make comparisons about the severity of the virus in different countries. It is easy to navigate and explore.
