Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

His-Earth

Summary

This is a project about the history of Earth. It expands all the way from 13.8 billion years ago when the Big Bang happened all the way to when life appeared on Earth and to us now. It includes 3 main types of events, environment, life forms, and key figures in history like Isaac Newton. We have two timelines, the first timeline is the timeline that includes the environment and life forms, for example, The Big Bang, Earth's formation, and when life first appeared on Earth. The second timeline is more near modern times about key figures in history, for instance, Aristotle, Isaac Newton, and Albert Einstein. Overall our goal is just to educate more people about the history of Earth.

How We Addressed This Challenge
  • We developed a website that included the scientific history of Earth under two timelines, it talked about different huge events in history and looking at history from a science stand view.
  • I think it is important because this can give us a sense into how huge the history is all the from 13.8 billion years ago the formation of the universe or so called The Big Bang to a couple billion years ago the formation of Earth all the way up until now.
  • It gives the reader a sense of view of the history of Earth, it gives them a generalized understanding as to when certain big events in history happened and what was the outcome of the events that have happened.
  • It works like a website where there is two timelines and when you click the information that you want to look for on the timeline, it takes you to a page where you can access all those data.
  • I hope to achieve the goal of education both young and older audiences who does not already know about the history of Earth, and gives them a generalized summary of it, and make them know what happened before we are here on Earth.
How We Developed This Project
  • What inspired us is our common interest between our team members in history and science, we wanted to do something that connected both history to science, so we came up with an way to do a timeline that included important scientific historical events in history.
  • We chose the way of creating website and google slides.
  • We used google site to create our project.
  • The challenge we had is creating the timeline on the website, but after some time trying to figure it out, we've got it done.
  • We first review the history and list the famous deeds, characters and geological changes in history.
  • Secondly, we deleted the one that are not extremely significant and all the rest are important events.
  • We arrange them in the order of birth date (time of occurrence).
  • We found videos, materials and pictures about them online. Summarize and summarize through our understanding.
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project
  • We used the data of the Big Bang from NASA websites like science.nasa.gov to find information about the Big Bang, we used it in our research to develop the points we made in the timeline.
  • We used the data of Earth formation from NASA website to write our essential points about the project. Earth formation is also one of the most important things in our project because everything comes after Earth formation and the Big Bang.
  • We used the pictures from NASA to show examples for our project. We have included the pictures on our website and our slideshows.
