Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

NASA History in a Flash

Summary

NASA History in a Flash is a mobile App aimed at educating young people who are interested in space. It summarizes and showcases different achievements from NASA and memorable points in NASA's history through videos and pictures and even podcasts

How We Addressed This Challenge

This project produced a mobile app. It aims to inform and show NASA enthusiasts about different projects undertaken by NASA through YouTube videos, images and podcasts to bring hard to find NASA information easily to the public. A user simply launches the app and chooses an interesting topic to watch and interact with. We hope to bring this amazing media easily to young people who are interested in NASA and space exploration in general.

How We Developed This Project

We chose this project because it piqued our curiosity since we didn't have a lot of knowledge about space and NASA. We developed this project using React Native which is based on JavaScript and used a platform called Expo that accelerates development time and we tested on our mobile phones (android and ios).

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used NASA data sourced from https://history.nasa.gov/SpaceApps2020.html such as pictures, YouTube videos, YouTube playlists and podcasts. The data was not processed in any way meaning that we used raw data from the link above
