Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

Digital History

Summary

As this year's theme is "Taking Action", we have planned our moves to introduce an app called "Digital History" focusing on the challenge "Inform" from the main category and "Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History" as our subcategory .In order to solve the challenge ,we divided them into some sub challenges .To do so, our idea for these segments include sub challenges to deal with these from inside to out .The sub challenges which we divided to solve is done by two segments of our app that cover these following points with implemented solution below:1)History == Personality test2)Engaging == Personality test3)Earth == Quiz and Story game4)Science == Quiz and Story game

How We Addressed This Challenge

We have developed an app which targets users to visualize NASA's contribution towards Earth.

Our app will firstly give two options to choose from:

1) Personality test to let users to connect to personalities who are an inspiration in the History of science. We selected 4 personalities to match with users.

2) Quiz game and story is the second section which features story that shows that NASA not only work for space but also for the earth. We have visualized and organized this statement through interesting videos about NASA and added the quiz after each video to unlock the next one. However the challenge is set up for user as giving each wrong answer will cause user to play again from the portion which user couldn't answer after again watching that video. For holding up the excitement we have included 5 questions along with two options to answer to avoid the loss of interest.

We hope to involve as much user as we can to create the eagerness to know more about science for that we choose visualized approach towards completing our challenge.

How We Developed This Project

Many people skip documentations or reading materials for gaining knowledge. But in the visualized process of the same documentations works for many more . So our target is to convert boring documentation into a more alive representation to make information more indulging to explore. This realization inspired us to choose the challenge "Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History" under "Inform" category.

The approach we followed is to build a software , in a form of an app name "Digital History" so that many people can use it easily and it can be available for free but for the hardware component it becomes difficult to provide this features most of the time. So , we chose software instead of hardware.

The tools , coding languages and software are mentioned below:

1) Android studio

2) Java

3) XML

4) Microsoft PowerPoint

5) Adobe Illustrator

6) 'Shotcut' video editor

7) Voice Recorder

8) Audacity

To be able to implement and also enjoy while implementing our idea is the biggest achievement we consider for us and hope that others will enjoy it too.

Not quiet of a problem but we wanted to expand our app by adding more fields such as mini games or more videos about various topics which we weren't able to do in this time span but we hope to expand it for future works.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Our project mainly covers the point that NASA just do not work for the space but also for earth which is also stated in the challenge we have taken.

We have selected videos of NASA to let people know about their activity for earth that is in one of the main segments of our app. So in a sense we have used NASA's data to influence others through our app.

Below we have listed the links we used for videos and documents for our app from NASA or NASA's partner agencies websites:
