Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

PAQHA: let's talk about science

Summary

Paqha is an educational and dynamic app that promotes and teaches different topics of science to the users. We focus on creating an app oriented to children and young people, in order to incentivize curiosity, which is a virtue of researchers. The app will show you the data of your character, such as his/her professional achievements and contribution to our planet. It will contain data of significant events which had an impact in our community or the environment, all of them made by NASA. We have games like charades, puzzles, quizzes, etc. Also, you can get new characters from scientists or professionals from the agency. You will have a forum where you can post your ideas and inventions.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our target audience is children and teenagers, but it does not exclude adults from fun. Through the characters, users can entertainingly inform themselves and thus find out more about them. This application not only seeks to entertain but also to inform and cognitively develop the user to have more knowledge of the research carried out by NASA on our planet and its importance. For example, the United States agency directly helps people through a technology project focused on a specific problem in a community or is involved in the development of technologies to stop environmental pollution. All these types of situations will be exposed in our application. As a bonus, our characters are based on these NASA scientists or engineers who are leading these projects.

How We Developed This Project

To develop our project, we used Adobe After Effects software to make 3D effects with 2D images. At the same time, we use WIX to create our page creatively and faster, as well as Miro to be able to produce our prototype and logos of the application.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We use the sources and books provided by NASA. Also, we use the offers we had as participants of the event, such as MIRO.

We collect data about the Earth, its peculiar places, ecology, and biodiversity, as well as the reports of NASA about our planet and its importance.
