As NASA's activities and efforts in the field of earth science, environmental changes, natural disasters and trying to address their consequences brought new knowledge and effects to the earth and our lives. Our challenge was to increase people's awareness of these efforts. Our goals through this project were too entertaining easy suitable for all ages and not complicated websites that will increase the knowledge about disasters and awareness simplifying NASA's contributions to observing and exploring natural disasters in the form of simple, attractive, and interactive stories with illustrations and maps.
After a lot of discussions and research about our challenge, possible solutions and how can we develop new ways to present our solution, we found that natural disasters are increasing by time and it's negative impact on the environment and Earth’s future increase and became more dangerous. In the last year, a lot of disasters occur around the world one after another so it became noticeable and people are talking about it and so afraid of it. So, we decided to work on it to find a suitable, creative solution so that we can explain to people what it is, why it is in an increase and also increase people’s awareness of it. NASA has effective researches on these topics of disasters which help us a lot in the search. But in this search, we found many sites for NASA, some of them were to describe the natural disasters that occurred and its impacts, and other sites was talking about NASA and its contributions to monitoring and discovering these disasters and how did NASA develop its satellites and equipment. One of the problems that faced us was that collecting the information was very hard because we had to collect them from and deal with a lot of information, sites, and resources as we didn’t find a site that includes all of them so it was complicated and dispersed. So, we got our idea which is a website that including most of this information by collecting the two topics together that will increase the knowledge about disasters and awareness of it by simplifying NASA’s contributions to observing and exploring natural disasters in the form of simple, attractive, and interactive stories with illustrations that are appropriate with children and adults. Besides, other stories about various topics will be added soon to the website that will support Arabic and English.
Our idea is based completely on the search for the data and information that people and scientists gathered over the past years, in this time it wasn’t easy to reach for this information, so they had to search a lot. But after NASA’s searches about space and Earth and documented its researches in their sites it became easier.
So that we can create an integrated website based on NASA’s information to document it instead of many sites. This site is characterized by simplicity also including photos that NASA takes with its satellites. So we can rely on it to increase people's awareness of disasters. We used NASA’s trusted sites to gather the information as NASA Earth Science Disasters Program, NASA Earth Observatory.
