Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

Changing our way to see the world: old and new NASA Stories.

Summary

This team is part of the of the comunity of Nº8 Highschool of Rivera, Uruguay, founded on the 12 of abril, 2012. Our knoledge about NASA comes most of the time from the news. We think that is an unkown universe for us. It´s important for us to know what´s operates behind many of the solutions and advances of humanity that are archieved througth the data obtained by NASA. Our objective is to spread information about NASA, to tell stories fron it´s past and today, such as new programs that colect information to help humanity.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Eventually, the challenge "Mission to planet Earth: a digital story" aims to bring the "universe" of NASA closer to humanity. We believe that we can contribute on our part, sharing in the different educational communities around us everything we are learning by participating in this event.

In our context, everything to do with NASA is almost like the science fiction stories in movies and books: something wonderful, but far away. It is interesting to highlight the importance of the written record as part of NASA's cultural heritage, which is what will reach future generations.

How We Developed This Project

What led us to choose this topic was our lack of knowledge about NASA. Our initial goal is to learn, then spread and win. We mainly searched the suggested pages and read to make our story. We do not have the help of computer experts, but we are going to create a blog with information and eventually some add some activities. The biggest impediment is our technological ignorance, and connectivity problems. The strength of this team is our ambition and the teamwork, we are third-year students from Liceo Nº 8 in Rivera.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

The page: https://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/videos/index.html, lead us to this oter page: https://www.globe.gov/es/about/history, it seem interesting to us because we didn`t new that in our city there`s a centre that participates in the GLOBE proyect. We read the page of NASA history because we realize how little we new.

Project Demo

The idea is to spread information about NASA and give our comunity the information that NASA not only just travel outside the Earth, but also studies and colect information that helps all of us, everyday. We will create a blog and share stories.
