Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

The stories of NASA’s Earth science

Summary

Nasa has activities and many achievements on Earth as well as space, but it may be surprising for some people. So the challenge aims to clarify this concept to people and tell them stories about Nasa Earth Through a digital tool. Our idea is to make an app and attach it with a website to reach a larger No of people. The app will focus on one field of Nasa researches on Earth which is water and energy cycle, and present it with a simple way with graphics and effects to attract people and add fun to it.

How We Addressed This Challenge

As our challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science because many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets, we found that this challenge can be solved by mainly displaying these stories in an interactive way commensurate with different ages. As a result, we thought about making a website that is something attached to an application to be available without accessing the internet. Furthermore, the website will be divided into two sections which are for children and adults. The stories of NASA’s Earth science will be shown regarding the age stage. There are also additional features for each section to be suitable for them. Besides, there are interactive games and videos like simple puzzles for children to make sure that the understood the information. In proportion to adults, the section will be provided with charts, graphs, ..etc.

How We Developed This Project

Our team chose this challenge as we all found that many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets that need to be analysed and shown to people. As many resources were allowed from space agency for us to get data base of our challenge, we made something like a filtration as we opened all resources and saved which are related to our challenge topic.

Our approach is using programming language (CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and python) to make a website that is something attached to an application to be available without accessing the internet. The website will be divided into two sections which are for children and adults. First, we got a problem of how to show people NASA's efforts related to earth science and realising as our choice must be creative and deliver the information in clear and simple way. We passed it by thinking of designing a solution with the characteristics we mentioned before.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

As many resources were allowed from the space agency for us to get a database of our challenge, we made something like a filtration as we opened all resources and saved which are related to our challenge topic. We knew some stories of NASA’s Earth science in some earth science focus areas, such as atmospheric composition, water, and energy cycle, carbon cycle, and earth surface and interior. In addition, we searched about NASA's prior tools related to Earth science.
