Mission to Planet Earth: A Digital History

NASA’s activities in space have brought new knowledge of the Earth, inspiring new ways of thinking about humanity and the planet. However, many people aren’t aware that NASA studies the Earth in addition to other planets. Your challenge is to tell stories of NASA’s Earth science enterprise using interactive digital tools. This will test your technical skills and your ability to think like a historian or educator.

Looking at Earth from space: A cosmic perspective

Summary

Home.A word dear to us.It fills our hearts with warmth. And yet, how many of us know the real meaning of the word? Is home a house? A place? Or is it people? Why not ask an astronaut or an explorer of space who sees a different perspective. Perhaps the passengers of the ISS or in the near future the residents of our bases on the Moon and Mars would be equipped with the correct answer. Home is usHome is humanityHome is Planet Earth. Through this project, our aim is to understand the science involving our home and to give you an insight on some technology - how they've changed our perspective of Earth and helped us understand "HOME" better.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We have created an interactive webpage which gives a detailed overview of NASA's projects to observe Earth using satellites, specifically, the A train constellation.

Our goal is to help people connect with our planet. We want users to interact with our website and see Earth from a cosmic perspective.

Through this website, you learn how various satellites work together and collect data about the science of our planet’s atmosphere, land and water to provide comprehensive studies.

How We Developed This Project

Creating awareness about ongoing and historical activities of agencies like Nasa is the biggest challenge in the world of Science media currently. This challenge provided us with the perfect opportunity to find a solution for this problem. The result, an interactive website. Our approach was to build a website to provide a means to understand the missions undertaken by Nasa and its partners for Earth science. Tools like Html, JavaScript, CSS and GitHub aided us in our mission towards our solution to inform. Our achievement will be to able to change the perspective towards Earth through our website.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Our project revolves around the ISS and the Afternoon constellation of satellites which are developed and run by NASA and its partner agencies. We obtained the history and related data through official websites of NASA,JPL and EPortal Directories of the satellites in question. It was imperative that we used validated information in our website and obtaining information from official websites was the solution. Therefore since our challenge is based on Inform, space agency data has direct involvement in our project.
