We developed an android application called NASA HYKES. It is very important because it enables users to easily access data from space missions and orbiting satellites. The app does this by integrating the complex API calls or query parameters into simple and easy to use User Interface(UI). This is achieved by using the openGL graphics library to render celestial spheres. On each of the celestial spheres, we represent the different datasets with distinctive colors. This makes the NASA HYKES app easy to navigate.
Our team was inspired to choose this challenge because we wanted data/information regarding space missions/studies to be easily accessible to everyone, from the space scientists to the space organizations, and to space enthusiasts. when space data is easily accessible, interest in space will increase. Our approach to developing the project was to create an android app. The coding language that was used in achieving this was JAVA. The tools used were Android studio, Adobe illustrator, and figma. The problem our team faced was lack of sufficient time. We had to build an app, and 48 hours was not enough to do this. Also, some of the sills needed for the projectwere learnt during the 48 hour period.
We utilized the sky visualization tool in creating a sky map for our android app.
