Hey! What Are You Looking At?

The High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC) archives space agencies' data from missions studying electromagnetic radiation from extremely energetic cosmic phenomena (e.g., gravitational wave detections, gamma ray bursts, and supernovae). The Canadian Astronomy Data Center (CADC) is another repository containing missions studying comets, asteroids, and exoplanets among other things. Your challenge is to create a visualization tool that can help people interested in these phenomena to access the data quickly and easily.

Space Yard Search

Summary

Through Unity we will make a game where the user can navigate on a space trip in order to discover and learn. It will be an animation of a spaceship following a proposed path, where the moment it reaches its destination, data of the cosmological object (stars, exoplanets, among others) will be demonstrated with a link that will guide the user to the information coming from the research centers technology, it should be noted that this website will serve to complement the interface coming from the application in Unity, that is, it will also work individually as a wikia when alone and publicly visible, it is recommended to use the interactive platform for greater immersiveness of user.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed an educational game in order for people to be interested and to acquire knowledge in a more interactive way. We hope to arrive at a flashy game that is easy to access and that will bring information to people more easily.

How We Developed This Project

The inspiration for us to choose this challenge was that in addition to being a theme that we like a lot, it is little seen and that people have little interest and we wanted to change that, which completely fit the challenge. The approach used to start the project was to get together and take everyone's ideas to solve the problem in some valid way, after that, the project split up to make what we wanted more visible. We ended up using unity, power point, sony vegas, adobe photoshop, premiere pro, Visual Studio Code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). The biggest problem was the definition of the project itself, since from that we were able to walk very well. We managed to develop the prototype of everything we planned, thus achieving all of our goals.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used NASA data to fill in the information about the selected celestial body, however this prototype is only showing information about the Earth, the data was separated by category and then regrouped in a more organized way.

Data & Resources
