Awards & Nominations

The Cosmic Emigrants has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!

Local Peoples' Choice Winner

Hey! What Are You Looking At?

The High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC) archives space agencies' data from missions studying electromagnetic radiation from extremely energetic cosmic phenomena (e.g., gravitational wave detections, gamma ray bursts, and supernovae). The Canadian Astronomy Data Center (CADC) is another repository containing missions studying comets, asteroids, and exoplanets among other things. Your challenge is to create a visualization tool that can help people interested in these phenomena to access the data quickly and easily.

EMRIF (ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION INFORMATION) : Providing EMR info at your tips

Summary

Our web application EMRIF is a hub of electromagnetic radiation related data. We extracted the data from trusted sites like NASA, Wikipedia CSA, etc. We then segregated this huge compiled data into datasets based on categories of our application. Our application has 2 main users -Elementary and Advanced. As their name suggests elementary is for basic information and advance for deep insights in the topic. The videos section is to help beginners to get their concepts cleared. We also have updates section to keep up our users with recent happenings in cosmic world. Next is our factoids section to cater users with awestruck fact. At last Blog section for interactive and informative discussions.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed this website to avoid people the hassle of surfing the web for hours to find correct data on electromagnetic radiation. It is important so that people can save time and find legitimate data on EMR . Our website compiles data about EMR from reliable sources to provide all this data unilaterally on one platform. Our website has been made with WORDPRESS using site hosting from flaunt7.com . It is a manually controlled website where our team regularly keeps updating and increasing the information to make the process even easier . Our project addresses this challenge by responding to the need of the moment of a unilateral platform for all this data.

Our aim is to compile a significant amount of data on EMR in the world on our website gradually and to educate people how critical is the study of EMR for a better understanding of the universe.

How We Developed This Project

INSPIRATION : Our inspiration behind developing this project was the scattered and false data on electromagnetic radiation(EMR) all over the internet . It took hours for people to find correct data on electromagnetic radiation over the internet . It was even harder for researchers to find certain papers , patents and reading of experiments over the internet .

APPROACH: Our aim was to develop a website or an app where all this data could be accessed unilaterally . We have made our website to save the time and efforts of people invested in finding data about EMR which turns out to be false more often than not .A website is more accessible as compared to an app (due to development on different platforms and bugs) so we proceeded with a website .

SOFTWARE USED: WordPress using site hosting from flaunt7.com

PROBLEMS :

  1. The establishment of a LOGIN platform , due to this we had to make separate pages for SIGN UP or LOGIN
  2. Providing live updates automatically , we were unable to update them automatically due to which we proceeded with manual updates (majorly due to a less amount of daily news about EMR )
  3. Making all data about EMR available on our website due to shortage of time. To illustrate our idea we have added limited resources on our website for the time being
  4. No segregation of papers (AS OF NOW) due to shortage of time and knowledge on all the papers

ACHIEVEMENTS :

  1. Being able to identify reliable sources on EMR related information and transferring it into one platform unilaterally . We are also working on a program which could filter out the most relevant scientific papers
  2. Availability of best videos on the topic at one place
  3. Extensively reducing the waste of time in searching for EMR related information and getting irrelevant results
  4. A platform for scientists to read a large amount of the papers published on EMR (limited as of now due to shortage of time)
  5. A discussion platform for researchers to discuss and debate their papers which might help in bringing down conflict on the discovery of theories(BLOG AND COMMENT SECTION)
  6. A platform where people can ask their doubts about EMR(BLOG AND COMMENT SECTION)
  7. A constantly updated(manually) FACTOIDSsection to lure the people into the amazing facts about the universe making them more informative and updated about EMR

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

It was used mainly for the following :-

  1. Information on space phenomenon that involve the release of electromagnetic radiation(EMR)
  2. Basic introduction to many extraterrestrial objects
  3. To provide live updates on the new discoveries and data involving EMR
  4. Many informative videos to help the user understand it in a better manner
  5. Scientific papers so that researchers don't have to search the net for hours to find them
  6. A discussion platform (BLOGS SECTION) to discuss these papers and other theories or doubts
