A One Health Approach

Air pollution is a major global environmental health risk, causing an estimated seven million deaths across the globe annually. Your challenge is to take an interdisciplinary approach, using both Earth science and health science, and integrate different types of datasets and applications to study the effects of air pollution.

Byte Me: An app for Air Pollution Awareness

Summary

Since Air Pollution is a global issue, here's an app which will aware us about air pollution and how it is affecting our health and lifestyle. The app deals with the problem with a quiz, so that people have fun even while learning.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project is designed as a quiz on how the air pollution is affecting us as well as some convenient solution which everybody can achieve. It is also vital for us to make the learning process interesting so we do have MCQs for a better experience using our app. We aspire for people to be aware of how affected we are, and make them realize that air pollution is an alarming issue.

How We Developed This Project

Even though we were excited about going through all the challenges, we could not let go of the first listed challenge itself- A One Health Approach. We believe it was because of the fact that we could relate to it, as the air pollution has caused significant amount of damage to where we live.

We used MIT App Inventor for the development of our app. While creating the app, all of us got to learn about air pollution even more in depth. Since none of us had ever made an app, we used the open source software provided by MIT App Inventor. It further inspired us to try make an app later on our own.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used various sites to utilize data by keeping it in our app. The open source data from NASA and its collaborators were mostly what we used, however, we had to browse through various other websites to gain local data for the information on the cities that we were working on our app. The array of information provided by the open source helped us pick out what would be most suitable for our app. All the sources will be mentioned in the reference section below.
