A One Health Approach

Air pollution is a major global environmental health risk, causing an estimated seven million deaths across the globe annually. Your challenge is to take an interdisciplinary approach, using both Earth science and health science, and integrate different types of datasets and applications to study the effects of air pollution.

Making air breathable

Summary

Air pollution kills 7 million people every year, of which 0.6 million are children. If we can't stop it right here, this will bring us more hazardous consequences like global warming and climate change. Our device can inhibit the pollutants from combustion engines and make the air breathable. O-Zone is aiming to create a sustainable green and renewable energy model starting from implementing the device in the vehicles and industries and then being a complete automobile solution in the near future. Our aim to reduce air pollution and it's the hazardous effect on human beings and our mother earth. We are working to making the air breathable while running the vehicles and industries.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Research confirms that air pollution being the number one fatal pollution in earth. The global pandemic has also taught us what is the importance of fresh and pollution free air. When the masks are becoming our daily ware, it is also becoming our daily task to think and work for the global atmosphere, environment, and public health. so, we are focusing on the health issue, global warming, and climate change. But how a cohort of young innovator can solve these big problems, question comes. Is that BIG? Definitely YES! Is that IMPOSSIBLE? We do not think so. So, started to think on the tiniest and easiest way and around. We see the pollutants, visible or invisible, are mixing in the open air each and every moment and creating hazardous effect. So, we planned that if we can stop, or at least reduce the emission of that tiniest particle, that would be big problem solver. So, we came up with a device which inhibits the pollutants from mixing into the fresh air from the transports and industries and can save a good amount of pollution. We tend to live in a breathable environment, running the vehicles and industries. So, we badly needed a system which will purify the dangerous particles which are destroying the ozone layer and causing global warming and fatal health issues. It has filters and chambers inside where it captures and stores pollutant because we are also working to use those carbon wastes into reusable products. Our future plans include all in one automobile automation system to solve the automation and traffic problem using artificial intelligence. We hope to reduce the air pollution of our cities and countries first and then expand into the pollution affected countries to make their air breathable. Our mission is to make the air clean and fresh and reduce the harmful effects over the global atmosphere and human health. We strongly believe that if our projects can be implemented to the transports, the air will be much pure and breathable, and we can tackle a good amount of global warming.

How We Developed This Project

We live in a city which is very much lively and natural. But day by day, industries and vehicles increase, so does pollution. We witness, how are green and natural cities are being polluted, air quality worsens and becoming a threat to clean air consumption. We decided to something on this. We wanted to make an interdisciplinary approach which will solve the health issues and air pollution at the same time. We wanted to innovate something that would contribute to the human health and global environment by reducing the air pollution somehow. We invented a hardware initially, the device, which being implemented can reduce the air pollution to a good extent. And also leave us room for refine the waste as a renewable form. So, our approach was to solve health issues, air pollution, global climate, and sustainable and renewable energy model.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

After we pinpoint our problem to be solved, we found space agency’s data very much helpful for that. We used NASA's Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) to observe the real time condition of the atmosphere. The scientific visualization studio gets the air chemical composition to find out which gas’s emission need to be stopped immediately and work accordingly. From the earth’s surface, it is very much hard to understand what is actually going on in the atmosphere, get image immediately after satellite captures it. AirNow also helped us to understand and update the air quality of the area we are operating in and make awareness among people to let them use our device and modify our plans and device accordingly.

In analyzing spaceborne data, one thing is abundantly clear -- reducing emissions from human activities can have a profound effect on air quality and that lead us to solve the problem. Furthermore, analyzing the satellite’s image in this recent pandemic period, this is pretty much evident that the restriction of the transportation, industry and humane activity caused lesser emission of the Nitrogen oxide and other harmful gases. To measure, create and solve the health and climate issue from our perspective, NASA's Health and Air Quality applications program would be a great resource and value. Also, when we were focusing on the land only, NASA’s ship pollution imagery provided us the cue to work for this vast sector and compel us to create a solution for this large amount of pollution. Satellites offer a potential solution. Every day they can gather global views of industrial pollution, smoke, dust, and other aerosol particles in the air. For further development, we are greatly inspired by the IDEA. NASA, NOAA, and the EPA are teaming up to improve forecasters' ability to track regional air pollution. Called 'IDEA', the new project combines NASA and NOAA satellite data with the EPA's air quality index, thus improving the accuracy of air quality forecasts. Thus, for forecasting, analyzing and improving the air quality, the satellite and real time air and atmosphere data is the most potential resource we used.
