Our challenge is to raise awareness among people and educate them about the danger on relying on outdated nonrenewable power sources to fulfill our energy requirements.
We used earth data to gather climate data in the region .
We also used Health Data to analyze the effects of the air pollution, it should be noted that very few Health data and statistics are open source or available to the general public in Sri Lanka.
We had an idea to develop an app utilizing social media to connect people to plant trees to offset the Carbon Dioxide levels produced from power stations that use fossil fuels to generate power.
This app would keep a record of the total tonnage of carbon dioxide in total released by all the power stations (that utilize fossil fuel) in a country and give an estimate about the number of trees that must be planted to offset this carbon dioxide. Users will plant trees and upload a photo of themselves and the trees as proof, users who plant more trees will be given achievements such as virtual badges that can be displayed on their social media platforms. We can also launch social media platform challenges such as a "Replant Challenge" to raise awareness among the current and younger generation.
We used NASA earth data to climate data specific to the location such as temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind speed.
