Scanning for Lifeforms

This challenge addresses a pressing global need to track change in biological diversity, which is threatened by human-driven environmental change. Use space agency data to develop innovative ways to detect biological diversity on Earth, track and predict changes over time, and communicate that information to scientists and society.

Summary

We are constructing a robot, that cruises the water bodies to spot any change in water that may cause change to marine life, using specific tools such as, PH sensor, which is used to measure the acidity and basicity of a liquid, and a Turbidity sensor, which detects water quality by measuring the level of turbidity. By collecting data continuously and store them into an SD Card module, once there is a suspicious change, it will inform the location to the nearest center using a GSM module, enabling experts to act early.The path of the robot depends on a database that is analyzed using algorithms and charts that explain information about water quality and living organisms underwater 50 years.

How We Addressed This Challenge

There are many causes of biodiversity loss, including deforestation, pollution...etc. Water pollution affects marine organisms. Thus, this makes a negative change in biodiversity. So, our project is a Robot that addresses this challenge by spotting any change in water that may harm marine organisms, and collect data about this area and analyze these data to send it to scientists as predictions. Our project works by many using special sensors such as, PH sensor, which is used to measure the acidity and basicity of a liquid, and a Turbidity sensor, which detects water quality by measuring the level of turbidity. By collecting data continuously and store them into an SD Card module, once there is a suspicious change, it will inform the location to the nearest center using a GSM module, enabling experts to act early. We hope our project work as we predicate and achieve goals that we were determined them.

How We Developed This Project

Biological change is a very dangerous problem that can make humanity suffers and all life. There are many causes of biodiversity loss, including deforestation, pollution, etc. the water was affected by these changes so water affects marine organisms like fish and plants. As a result of this, a lot of marine organisms dead, some marine organisms extinct, and a high percentage of water and food poisoning. Organisms under the ocean are very important because they are the main resource of food. Seafood is the main food in a lot of cities in Asia. So, This problem caught our attention to join this challenge and save a lot of marine organisms and humans. We use space agency data from NASA to gain some information about biological change and locate them on the map. We found in NASA information that “Plant life in the world's oceans has become less productive during the past two decades “ and the location of biological change from all over the world in the map and we know the percentage of changing and the reasons for them and the resource gave some evidence to persuade us. So, we know where we will use our project now. We use PH senor, Turbidity sensor, SD Card module, GSM module, GPS module, DC Pump, Servo pump RC transmitter and receiver and Arduino mega and mini. we make code on Arduino. We face a lot of problems and we work hard to solve it to make our project .in the first we didn’t select the materials that we will use in the project so we started with selecting them to be appropriate with the project and after we select the tools we find out that Turbidity sensor to connect with Arduino must connect in DTR and it doesn’t exist in Arduino UNO or mega it only exists in Arduino pro mini and we can’t use Arduino mini because we can’t connect all sensors to it so we use Arduino mega and mini and make a connection between them so we solve the problem easily. We make a lot of achievements like making a 3D module for the project and make the codes in Arduino and the connections between sensors.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We use space agency data as a database which is consisting of information about water bodies quality such as, oil percentage at a specific area or the acidity percentage changing over time and causes of it. Moreover, the info about the living organisms underwater such as their production or extension 50 years ago, which will help us connecting the old data with new data to get predictions about the future stages the biological life may reach.
