Orbital Scrap Metal – The Video Game V2.0

Orbital debris is an ever-increasing threat to space assets such as Earth observation satellites and space stations and explorers. Your challenge is to create an orbital debris collection videogame web-app and imagine the possibilities of new companies that collect orbital debris and salvage the scrap metal to manufacture new products in space.

Space Miners

Summary

Objects have been launched into the space for about 50 years now. But what happens to these objects once their space mission fails or succeeds? While most of these objects back to Earth, many objects are still left behind in orbit around Earth.

How We Addressed This Challenge

SpaceMiners it's an exploration and survival game focused in space junk recycling. Debris will be collected by an astronaut and then be crafted into new items in the space station, these items will then be used to build a urbanization on the moon.

Of course, there will be dangers like objects to dodge (e.g asteroids, scrap, etc) and a limit on how much time the austronaut can be in the outer space. Also, there will be upgrades to the objects found like weapons skins and oxigen

Our aim is to raise awareness in the new generations about this current issue, there are tons of space scrap out there and few initiatives to solve this, it is important to start creating solutions before it becomes critical

How We Developed This Project

Our inspiration for this game was Minecraft, we all love this game and consider it as part of our childhood, we thought this can be very engaging for the future generations as well. For this project we used Unity and c# and all the assets (e.g. images, effects, items, background) was taken from the Unity store.

The main problem was integration and our lack of experience doing video games. Moreover, nothing beats an on-site team doing the challenge

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We planed to show data about orbital debris, like name and coordinates and how it was produced when clickingin the debris in the game. Unfortunately we couldn't implement this on time
