We have developed a web based video game developed in JavaScript with the aim of educating kids about the problem of space debris. The game addresses the challenge because it will provide base level information about space debris to kids while they are doing something they enjoy. The goal is to get kids excited about space and to inspire them to solve the growing problems of their future.
The team chose this challenge because it will be fun to develop a game and is a good avenue to the younger generation. The team believes that the best way to ensure that international problems like this will continue to be solved in the future years to come is to build inspiration in the future years to come. The team used Atom text editor with teletype add on to work simultaneously. The logic of the game is built using vanilla java script while the web page and styling is done using HTML and CSS. Because the team members have never used JavaScript before starting this hackathon the team adapted and modified a few key functions from a W3School tutorial.
The team uses NASA data regarding the current amount of space debris as well as the danger it poses to our space infrastructure. This data influenced the teams information which is presented when the user collects some space debris, this will show the range of material which makes up "space debris".
