Astror has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!
We mocked an app so that people can share the good news and actions they’re doing in being eco-friendly.
Global protests have shown us that our leaders are doing little to efficiently tackle the problem. Now is time for the single person to take action and, through our app, we’ll show them that each small action matters.
We want everyone to be part of the solution and also help people who feel eco-anxious and think nothing’s been done about this problem. Now, they can breathe again and see the action they, and the surrounding people, can do.
No more asking, what could I do? We have the actions!
We also have a feature where we help you build up two sustainable habits over 2 months. If you feel down, you can always share your ecological thoughts through pictures and videos, so that our community can help you get back on track, because mental health is important!
-You can also track your achievements through the chart. Each action will give points that will add up to your rank.
Future steps:
Finding sponsors, so we can provide discounts or gift cards after reaching a certain amount of points.
Aiming at developing a more interactive interface. We’ll take the map of the city you’re in. At the beginning of your journey, it’ll be gray. Watch it grow into a green and sustainable city as you advance in points and levels. From the map, you can also look where other people reported hazards. Go check and confirm if it is there or if they have resolved it.
Through the app, we also wanted to show the power of satellite data in our everyday life and how science can help us.
And that’s not all!
We’ll make sure you open the app reading some good news. Other than having single charts, we’ll make cities and national charts, so you’re up to date on what your city and nation are doing to tackle climate change. After a certain amount, they’ll receive discounts at selected markets or gift certificates. Once we’ll have a more developed app, we’ll also introduce a game feature. Each user will have an avatar which will start in a gray city. As you accumulate more points, the city will change and become more green and eco-friendly.

First of all, because we want to show our leaders that each one of us, in their little, is fighting against climate change and to coexist with nature.
We also aim to help those who might suffer from eco-anxiety. We’ll show them they are not alone in this fight. Someone else is fighting along with them and they can count on each other. That is the community that we want to bring together.
Many people are hearing about climate change? But do you know exactly what to do to help? It’s hard to find even simple things and to stick with it. That is why we want to develop Earthemis. A worldwide community where you’ll be able to see that your actions matter. Where later, you’ll be able to see our partners we selected based on their company philosophy and their approach to be a sustainable business.
One thing that also differentiates us from others is that we make sure to show you positive news about climate change, as they are often not said. They’ll be the first thing that you’ll see when entering our app. So, you can start your sustainable goals better and happier.
An important feature is the alert function. People can show, and get notified, in real-time, of any risks and hazards closed to their localized location. Whether in the city or in the woods, they do this through pictures and videos. Others can then confirm whether the hazard is still there. And by connecting with other people, maybe you can even come up with a solution together!
And Earthemis won’t stop here. The plans for ours and your future are big.
We also plan to develop an interactive map that shows how your actions are building your eco-friendly city
We’ll look for partners to set up rewards like discounts and gift cards, depending on your points.
To make your life easier, we’ll connect your smartwatch and fitbit to the app. So that your physical activities and points are automatically uploaded.
Other than established collaboration within the community, we hope that mayors, politicians, and industry leaders will see what we are doing. By looking at our everyday efforts, we also want to push them to do changes at national levels that will help in the fight against climate change, as well as starting again to respect and coexist in equilibrium with nature.
We want to push our leaders by also showing both local and global charts and push them to do better.
We hope that Earthemis will show the good in people.
We just met on an early Saturday morning, all teamless and looking for strangers to spend our weekend virtually together.
We did not know what challenge to do. We started to discuss the Scanning for Life challenge. Then, we started to talk about the hackathon in general, and all of our talks were mostly about us saying: we need to do something.
We started to talk about how humans interact with our surrounding environments.
We talked about climate change, pollution, the UN development goals, what world leaders should do about it, and that people are eager to change their habits and help in fighting the climate crisis.
We found a problem and the challenge: people don’t know what to do, plus they feel hopeless as they do not see any results, also courtesy of the bad news always on TV.
And the journey of four oblivious Italians began.
Noon: a team member left because of a work video call. He’s still on that call. And so, only 3 were left.
But not to worry, an hour later a new addiction came in.
3 pm: we defined our idea and we started to work on it. We picked the Planet, with People challenge. We did not know much; it took us an hour just to choose our app name, we chose our team name after midnight.
The approach we used to mock our app Earthemis, it was of us saying what we would like to see. We took the news and video of people telling you need to do something. But what? I don’t have the money for a Tesla. So we translated our thoughts into actions, actions that help you build eco-friendly habits.
On our time there are no coders, thus we did not code. We used online tools to make the 30-second video and the interface of what we’d like Earthemis to look like (using proto.io).
Problems: We did not know how to code or develop machine learning, so we focused our attention more on the use of maps.
Achievements: When asking for feedback and guidance from locals and international moderators, we impressed everyone with our concepts. Thanks to them, we also had the chance to improve our project. This worked very well, in fact:
