Our solution consists of a website containing compiled data that we could provide to organizations such as the United Nations to use in order to act accordingly on global problems. Our solution would compile data gathered through remote sensing, satellite imagery, and image recognition in addition to data regarding human settlements, populations and the problems communities around the world are faced with today. This data would be collected from reliable sources such as NASA and the United Nations. It would then present the compiled data along with the trends found in the data in a digestible form through our website so that people would be able to access the information and use it to better humanity as a whole. Organizations would be able to log onto the website and choose the type of data they would like to view on the home page and access it through the links provided. Through this project we hope to help organizations like the United Nations take action on global problems by giving them the necessary data to pinpoint areas that may need help. Furthermore, we would like to provide this information to anyone who wants to take action on these problems in certain communities whether they be concerning access to water, poverty or insufficient infrastructure. We hope that this helps make a difference in our world by giving people the resources they need to make change in communities around the world.
Our initial inspiration to choose this particular challenge was the fact that the lack of data from the human population wasn’t something everyone would choose. We wanted take this challenge develop it into service that provides compiled data to find out a certain community environmental condition, crisis (ie.Covid 19) and predictions of the near future by using data algorithms with machine learning. The approach was get partners like NASA to provide there satellite imaging to make our service more accurate. Our initial achievement is to further develop this project into a world wide essential service to help organizations such as UNICEF to help find children going through poverty, has lack of resources, and living in poor condition. The problems our team were facing in order to make this project successful was the fact that we didn’t have the knowledge to make websites by using HTML,CSS and JavaScript which made it our end project harder to be successful.
The multitude of data sets provided by NASA and their partners agencies greatly helped us to consider different settlement circumstances. Whether that be if the settlement is mainland or near coastlines. An important part of accessing world problems is the geographical location of each set of populations. As we started to set certain constraints, such as: access to water, climate, surface temperature, and land imagery we came to further recognize how such patterns help show better correlations between geographic locations and socioeconomic situations. These correlations are what allow our clients and users to be better informed about human settlements around the planet.
