Planet, With People

Your challenge is to build on the Human Planet Initiative of the Group on Earth Observations to apply new methods for mapping attributes of human populations. How can Human Planet data from NASA and other sources be used to improve or update maps or other information important to a problem that concerns you? Design or create a tool or service to accomplish this.

Attention to Time

Summary

The project is a data collection and distribution network, through alerts and text messages. Large urban centers suffer from flooding due to the large volume of rain, taking into account this approach, the software to be developed captures through information the volume of water that will occur that day, and also during the week, and with data obtained by city halls. and users, it maps out the areas that are most at risk of being flooded, thus helping the city and local residents.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The project addresses the real information of people from that location in real time, aiming to inform future passers-by in the region to pay attention to possible occurrences that may result in waiting, attention and care so that nothing more complex can happen at the time they attend the place.

How We Developed This Project

We are going to divide the project into two stages, the first would be to capture information, where we would have data from IBGE, from the city hall, and transmit the information through radios, emails and SMS. The second step would be to create an application where it will inform people who live in these regions. It would have a spreadsheet where people would inform data about their locations, as if floods already occurred in it, if any action was taken and if they are due to these hypotheses.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Data from "NASA MERG of Earthdata Research" were used to obtain information on soil moisture, precipitation and topography.
