Road_Deck

Summary

Road_Deck is an online interactive map tool that presents users with two maps :One for road distribution on the Asian continent, and another with the population density of administrative centres on the continent. The areas with higher road density in the vicinity tend to have higher human population. This concept forms the backbone of urbanization : ease of access or better road penetration into a particular area will drive human migration towards there.Our tool makes it easier for common people to visualize this relationship and form their own inferences based on the map data that is presented before them.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Planet, with people, means that we have help to suggest or create a solution to help our planet or people needs that is what we create Road_Deck. The inspiration for this project is the hypothesis that there is an obvious relationship between the population centres of the world and the concentration of roads in the surrounding area. From those information, we can obtain infrastructure rank with the hope that government can improve the infrastructure for better future.

How We Developed This Project

Introducing Road Deck which is a website that provides interactive map tool that would allow users to visualize population centers and road density in Asian countries. Rank of infrastructure also is provided in the website which is calculated from population and road density informationFinally, we have feedback form so that there is more engagement from government for better road networks in their local area.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Our team created a website to solve your problem. Introducing Road_Deck, our interactive map tool that would allow users to visualize population centers and road density in Asian countries. 

Utilizing the Global Road Open Access as well as the Gridded Population of the World (GPW) data set from Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), we compiled the data into an easy to use map interface on Tableau, that would allow for derivation of meaningful conclusion from the visualizations created.
