Summary
The map reflects the administrative division across the world. Each point represents one settlement point. The more condensed the area is, the darker the color observed, and hence the more human habitats there are. Conversely, if less dot appeared, the color is lighter, which indicates that the area is less habitated.Meanwhile, the map is also to examine population density. The more points there are, the more populated the area is. The administrative units can also be used to represent the technical development of a specific country.
How We Addressed This Challenge
This map is to demonstrate the distribution of administrative units globally, in the format of points. This map is essential as it not only reflects the density of human habitats and population but can also extend in helping the understanding of social development and the administrative center of a specific country. We would like to take this chance to create such a map, to give people a clear view of the subject. Meanwhile, educate people about the connection between concepts of cultural geographic knowledge.
How We Developed This Project
Our team has a great interest in geography, as well as computer science. We appreciate this chance to make connections between these subjects, to be able to use technology to demonstrate our geographical knowledge.
The language used is mainly javascript.
Since this is a time-sensitive project, and it's the first time for us to work as a team, we definitely faced some obstacles. The final project is not finished before the due date, so there are still many improvements that we can make later.
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project
We incorprated the data only from NASA, specifically the data of administrative units globally. Since the map is only used to show the distribution of administrative, the detailed data is needed.
