Sleep Shift Scheduling Tool

Sleep loss and fatigue may lead to reduced performance and an increased risk to safety during many activities, including spaceflight. Your challenge is to develop an operational sleep shift scheduling tool that provides autonomous customization of a schedule for sleep, exercise, and nutrition to manage fatigue.

Summary

THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EATING, EXERCISE AND SLEEP SCHEDULES, INCLUDING THE DISTRIBUTION OF HOURS TO SLEEP, WITH THE SUBJECT'S PRODUCTIVITY AND COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL PERFORMANCE. THEREFORE, IT IS OF FUNDAMENTAL IMPORTANCE THAT A HEALTHY REGIME BE ENSURED FOR THE ASTRONAUTS, BECAUSE ADDED TO THE STATE OF INGRAVIDITY, IT WOULD REPERESENT A DANGER. OUR TOOL ALLOWS YOU TO FIND A CLINICAL FOOD ACCORDING TO THE NEEDS OF THE PERSON, EXERCISES THAT YOU CAN PERFORM, AND MODULATE YOUR SLEEP TIME, EVEN SET IF YOU WILL MAKE TIME ZONE CHANGES. WITH ALL OF THE ABOVE THE NEED TO PRESCRIBE MEDICATIONS TO PEOPLE WITH DISORDERS AND CHANGES IN SLEEP.

How We Addressed This Challenge

WE DEVELOP A SYSTEM THAT CONSISTS OF THREE SECTIONS; FIRST, AN APPLICATION TO SYNCHRONIZE CUSTOMER CHARACTERISTICS, FOOD REQUIREMENTS, EXERCISE MINIMUM AND SLEEP TURNS THAT CAN BE LINKED WITH THE SCHEDULE TO SYNCHRONIZE THE TASKS. THE SECOND PART CORRESPONDS TO INTELLIGENT LENSES THAT CONNECT WITH THE APP AND ALLOW THE FILTER OF LIGHT ACCORDING TO THE CLOSE TO THE TIME OF SLEEP, ALSO INCLUDING HEADPHONES TO FILTER THE SOUND OR PLAY SOUND EASILY FOR MORE SLEEP. THE LAST PHASE IS AN INTELLIGENT GLASS SHEET THAT WORKS WITH THE BASES OF THE LENSES, BUT AIMED FOR AEROSPACE USE TO SOLVE SITUATIONS LIKE THE 16 SUNSETS FROM THE STATION. IN THIS WAY, WE CAN REDUCE THE EFFECTS OF NOT BEING ABLE TO SLEEP, FOR EXAMPLE, IT HAS BEEN SEEN THAT ULTRA SHORT SLEEP RHYTHMS OF 180-210 MINUTES, ALLOW AN OPTIMAL COGNITIVE AND BEHAVIORAL STATE TO BE MAINTAINED.

THIS CAN BE USED FOR PEOPLE WHO ALSO LIVE WITH A CONSTANT CHANGE OF SCHEDULES OR WITH A HIGH WORKLOAD, SUCH AS PILOTS, HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, STUDENTS AND SOME PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM IMBALANCES IN THE DREAM, A THING THAT WAS COMMON DURING THE PANDEMIC TIME.

WITH THIS WE WANT TO REDUCE THE EFFECTS ON HEALTH AND PROVIDE PROTECTIVE FACTORS AGAINST VARIOUS DISEASES.

IN ADDITION TO BEING ABLE TO HELP PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM DISEASES SUCH AS INSOMNIA, ANXIETY, POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS, SLEEP APNEA, OBESITY, AMONG OTHERS.

IN SUCH A WAY THAT PRODUCTIVITY STATES ARE ENSURED AND THROUGH A BETTER LABOR PERFORMANCE.

How We Developed This Project

IN ADDITION TO THE INCREASING INCIDENCE OF SLEEP DISORDERS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC.

OUR TEAM IS MADE UP OF STUDENTS FROM: CHEMISTRY, ELECTRONICS, SYSTEMS AND MEDICINE; AND WE FOUND INTERESTS IN THIS CHALLENGE, BECAUSE WE ALL KNEW HOW TO FIND A WAY TO DEVELOP OUR GOAL. FROM THE PROCESS FOR THE DESIGN OF THE LENSES, AND A SYSTEM ADAPTABLE TO SPACESHIPS AND THE SPACE STATION, BUT ALWAYS BASED ON CONCEPTS OF HUMAN BIOLOGY SUCH AS THE CIRCADIAN RHYTHM, RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND EXERCISE, ENVIRONMENT, REST AND FOOD .

THE TOOLS USED WERE:

FIRST A STUDY OF THE SITUATION IN DATABASES SUCH AS UPTODATE, NCBI, ARTICLES PUBLISHED BY NASA, CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES.

SECOND, ANDROID STUDIO WAS USED TO DEVELOP A PROTOTYPE OF THE APP, HTML TO EXTRAPOLATE THE APP, GOOGLE SPREADSHEETS, 3D PAINT, SUBLIME TEXT, YOUTUBE, GOOGLE DRIVE, WORD.

 

AS WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY AND FUTURE STEPS, WE HAVE A LOW DIVERSITY IN DIETS, AS WELL AS IN THE SYSTEM TO SYNCHRONIZE THE AGENDAS OF A CREW TO ORGANIZE SLEEP SHIFTS.

 

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We rely on NASA and ISS articles and their data to be able to find the problems, the solutions they have given such as SSLA, software such as CPSS, ISS FIT, ISS Space Food. In the end, it was perceived that what is required is to unify the system of requirements in a single software, so that a more personalized management is carried out.
