Sleep Shift Scheduling Tool

Sleep loss and fatigue may lead to reduced performance and an increased risk to safety during many activities, including spaceflight. Your challenge is to develop an operational sleep shift scheduling tool that provides autonomous customization of a schedule for sleep, exercise, and nutrition to manage fatigue.

EEOS App

Summary

According to our researches the main problem of the sleeping disorders which are unorganized sleep patterns, high levels of light emission and the machinery sound inside ISS or the space shuttles. To organize the sleep patterns we made an alarm system that tells what astronauts need to do before sleeping or after sleep. For the light emission problem we added a light setting with different frequencies of light options. And lastly for the sound problem meditation section of our app helps astronauts to focus on sleeping and with the help of the meditating sounds and earpads to eliminate the problem.

How We Addressed This Challenge

When was the last time you had trouble sleeping? If your answer was last night, don't worry. Solution is here!

EEOS App helps astronauts to overcome the problems of sleeping, eating and nutrition disorders that organize their habits and lives with the help of the science. Also it is simple and can be used in astronauts tablets. The organized solutions can prevent highly dangerous and deadly accidents like Space Shuttle Challenger Accident.

But how does this App works? Lets take a deep look inside.

After we login we are welcomed by main interface which includes the alarm system and to do list to organize astronauts day. Also you can tick the boxes to see what you achieved today.

By adding the body measurements and age, the lists will be personalized. And by adding the body measurements every month their improvements can be measured, later than to be added in data history to enlight the researchs.

As we said in our summary, planning of lighting and temperature are the most important factors to optimize the circadian rhytm. The light section goes from blue to red to copy the lighting cycle of the earth. Blue will be used in morning hours, yellow in afternoon hours and red will be used in night hours. And by the temperature settings we can adjust the values for the day and night cycles and also season cycles.

Our aim is to develop our app to be connected with the wrist watches that connects data to enlight the researchs. Also to be in the market for the curious people all over the world to observe the life over the skies and to enlighten the dreams of the younger generations.

We already checked the feedbacks of the people through our instagram page by surveys and open ended questions to learn what people want and what they need. And lastly dont forget to follow our instagram page and check the surveys: https://www.instagram.com/eeos.comp/?hl=en

How We Developed This Project

We were inspired by our fierce to reach the stars.

We chose to change the harsh daily planning of the astronauts to a better approach. Main problem was the sleeping(circadian) cycles being unoptimized. So we developed our app to find solutions to optimize the cycles of astronauts.

What we used to finish our project were:

  • Android Studio
  • BTK Akemi
  • Kapwing
  • Discord
  • İnstagram
  • Kotlin
  • 123APPS

"You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else."

  • Our biggest obstacle was our lack of knowledge about any coding language but we overcame this problem and learnt a new language within 4 days.
  • We just could not decide how to design our app but the problem was solved by brainstorming overnight.
  • We had sleeping problems while we were creating our app but after learning the rules and also using our knowledge from our app the problem was solved.
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used https://spaceflight.nasa.gov/home/index.html data to determine the problem, understand the conditions and find solutions.
