We developed a smart sleep scheduling and muscular stimulation system to enhance muscular health of astronauts by providing an artificial stimulation of muscle with electrical impulse which makes the same effect that gravity provides to the muscles and thereby the mass of the muscle can be maintained . By using EMS the person can obtain the same effect of these exercise done for 2hrs in just 15min by stimulating the muscles . The sleep scheduling part of the system measures all vital parameters such as heart rate ,Electromyogram, Oxygen concentration in blood , EEG........etc. These datas are collectively used for customised sleep scheduling as type time required for exercise is reduced . It also eliminates the additional effort for individual attention of astronauts. The Technology conducive to effective intervention and mitigation of health issues.
The continuous complaints regarding the fatigue as well muscle loss lead us to formulate a solution . We approached to this challenge by simulating the effects of gravity on muscles with the help of EMS. We used Node mcu as our microcontroller the coding is done in wiring language . The achievements of this system are that there’s is no generalised sleep patterns and other routine fixed for all the astronauts and the sleep scheduling is done in a very adaptive manner in accordance with the vital parameters measured and the sleeping hours are adjusted as a result an efficient healthy routine can be maintained.
We collected reference data from NASA regarding the astronauts feedback about the sleep problems fatigue and muscle loss ,in which it’s mentioned that majority are suffering from sleep disorders and muscle loss during theirs space life , which lead us to the ideation of our project. The previous space app challenge qualifiers in 2019 , in their project they reduced the weight of the space suit . we get idea to reduce the the total mass of the spacecraft .Even though our project adds some weight to the space suit ,our system reduces exercise time and big workout equipment is not needed for exercise and this in turn reduce total weight of the spacecraft.
By the references of NASA after studying g the unique and complicated structures of proteins in the human body leads to the development of medical treatments .Twenty four hours of astronauts were also analyzed to understand the space environments effect on biological rhythm on Earth.One of the recommendations given by NASA,ISRO and other space research centres is the maintenance of a regular sleep scheduling for their better health and efficient work.
