Sleep Shift Scheduling Tool

Sleep loss and fatigue may lead to reduced performance and an increased risk to safety during many activities, including spaceflight. Your challenge is to develop an operational sleep shift scheduling tool that provides autonomous customization of a schedule for sleep, exercise, and nutrition to manage fatigue.

Morpheus

Summary

In order to maintain a high level of operational safety on flights, it is extremely important that airlines are aware of and carefully monitor the health conditions, in particular the tiredness, of their pilots and flight attendants. And from studies carried out with NASA astronauts, it was discovered that sleep disturbances and the disruption of the circadian biological clock (jet lag) are the symptoms that can most affect crew members on long trips in different time zones. We developed the Morpheus app that will benefit long-distance travelers, especially airline pilots, for sleep control, exercise and nutrition. The purpose of the application is to relieve fatigue caused by these factors

How We Addressed This Challenge

The Guardians of Sleep Team, an application for the prevention of jet lag in airplane pilots. This application is important for airlines, since, it promotes control of the situation in which the pilot is physically on a trip and if he is sleep regulated, thus being able to guarantee the safety of a flight. The app monitors the pilot's sleep using artificial intelligence and recommends exercise and nutrition to maintain the pilot's physical health as well. Morpheus hopes to revolutionize airlines with the safety of pilots well monitored for sleep.

How We Developed This Project

Our team was inspired by the idea of being able to help the astronauts and we brought the problem experienced by them to the aviation pilots for suffering similar problems brought about by the challenge.

For the development of the solution, agile methodology was used for the ideation process and development of the project concept. Figma was used as a low-level prototyping tool for the application interface design.

The problems faced by the team were the successive moments of lack of focus and difficulties in seeing the innovation to implement in the solution concept.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

The group used the database provided by NASA to understand how sleep problems are faced by astronauts. Understanding this situation, we decided to approach this problem from the perspective of airplane pilots.
