Sleep Shift Scheduling Tool

Sleep loss and fatigue may lead to reduced performance and an increased risk to safety during many activities, including spaceflight. Your challenge is to develop an operational sleep shift scheduling tool that provides autonomous customization of a schedule for sleep, exercise, and nutrition to manage fatigue.

Summary

Our project was very highly examined by our team. The Martians did a lot of research which brought to making the ideal tool for solving this problem. We made sure it was unique, organized and very simple to use. With the project we were trying to find a way where we would make one astronaut's life more time oriented, more helpful and of course, more fun. We never want our astronauts and the rest of the crew to feel like they are some robots that work all day without getting any sleep or enjoy the view right in front of them. The Martians are looking for a way to make their lives healthier, more practical and easier for in the future.

How We Addressed This Challenge

With a lot of mixed ideas and a lot of thinking, we created the next best thing. It is called the ISM ( Individual Schedule Maker). We are aware that keeping yourself focused during a spaceflight is hard to achieve, especially when you are not well rested. This can cause various of problems during these spaceflights. Fuel failure, electrical problems, communication failure, attitude control.,. These are all very serious problems that need time to fix, but the crew must be in tip top shape to do so. Thanks to our new app ISM, we have made time schedules for different type of people depending on what they're like (whether they are a morning person, afternoon person, night person), including an alarm set and a personal virtual assistant that will remind you what activity you have for the day. With the help of these very specific schedules, the people will be able to do their job on time, but also be fully energized, nicely rested and of course, exercised. Plus they will have free time every single day so they can enjoy doing some of their hobbies, stargazing, contacting their families on Earth. Not only that, it will be able to turn on different kinds of night lights and music to help the crew shake off some stress and get ready to rest. How cool! It's important to respect everyone's needs, because they are the key to opening clarity in people's minds. I hope that our idea is at least a few steps closer to finding the right solution in the future.

How We Developed This Project

This project mostly caught our eye because us, as humans, we have experienced the feeling of fatigue and lack of sleep many times. Whenever we are like that, it's hard to function properly, not to mention in SPACE. With the difficulties to stay focused, we are not able to walk, think and do our job correctly. Thanks to our team, with a lot of mixed up ideas we created an amazing app (the ISM) that not only it will be useful for our astronauts, but also for the rest of the people on planet Earth. With the help of Adobe XD, Adobe Creative Cloud, PowerPoint 2016, we successfully presented our ideas in the most creative and unique way possible. The project itself may contain some missing pieces, but The Martians did a wonderful job showing their teamwork and their wish to find a solution for our people.

Thanks to the space agency data, we found out a lot of useful information about how astronauts sleep , eat, exercise in space, what do they work, how are they trained and etc. The data gave a big progress to our app itself which will be in good use of hands in the future.
