Sleep Shift Scheduling Tool

Sleep loss and fatigue may lead to reduced performance and an increased risk to safety during many activities, including spaceflight. Your challenge is to develop an operational sleep shift scheduling tool that provides autonomous customization of a schedule for sleep, exercise, and nutrition to manage fatigue.

The NapNauts

Summary

Autonomous monitoring, scheduling and rescheduling of the work, food, nutrition and workout patterns of individuals to keep their circadian rhythm in track.

How We Addressed This Challenge
  1. We have developed an android based application called the "NapNauts".to serve the purpose of the challenge "Sleep shift scheduling tool" .
  2. Our body has a natural clock called, the Circadian rhythm which manages our sleeping pattern. When we subject ourselves to poor sleeping patterns, the Circadian misalignment occurs. This leads to fatigue.
  3. Our app is intended to keep this Circadian rhythm in track, irrespective of the changes in schedules.
  4. It works based on the input data (age, gender, sleeping pattern, daily schedule, etc.,) that is provided by the individual and our algorithm autonomously creates an optimized schedule. it reminds the user about the meal times, workout times, extra sleep times, counter measures (medications, ambient lighting) based on the inputs, the user provides.
  5. With our product application, we hope that workers and astronauts will be able to take care of their circadian rhythm.
How We Developed This Project
  • This problem statement, at the first glance seemed simple enough to grasp.
  • We browsed through many articles in the internet regarding sleep, nutrition and workouts in space to gather enough information to build our app.
  • The problem that we faced was the lack of resources under the "resources tab" in the challenge page. We came to know via the https://chat.spaceappschallenge.org/channel/Sleep-Shift-Scheduling that the data set was failed to get through the internal review in time to be posted.
