Hello again for another year of the NASA Space Apps Challenge!

This is the second time Calgary will be part of this global hackathon. In last year's debut event a team from Calgary won the National Prize for a Canadian Space Agency Challenge!

The 2020 event will be entirely virtual and we are working hard to make it a great experience for you!

Here are some notes regarding the event:

When is it? The event is held globally from the 2nd to the 4th of October.

Where will the event be? We will be hosting this event on Discord and you will be sent a link to join the group when you register!

What do I need to do to Register? You can register for the NASA Space Apps right here on this page! If you want to participate in the CSA challenges, you will need to fill out an extra google form.

What will happen this weekend? Most of the weekend will involve your team working on your solution to the challenge of your choice. Other activities include a few keynote talks that will be live-streamed or prerecorded videos.

How will Judging Occur? You will be required to present your projects via live-stream or video for local judging. Two teams will be put forth to NASA and there will be one local CSA winner.

How can I get help if I get stuck on a challenge? There will be mentors available both locally and through the CSA to help you problem-solve sticky situations. They will be available on Discord.

What do I need to be able to participate in? You will need a computer or laptop to work on, a good internet connection, and the Discord App to connect to your team, mentors, and judges. We also recommend stocking up on your favorite snacks!

Do I need a team to sign-up? No! Feel free to sign up even if you do not yet have a complete or any team! We will use Discord to help you meet other participants looking for a team.

I am not a coder. Can I still participate? Yes, indeed! A large part of this challenge does not involve coding. Your solutions to challenges can range from an actual web/mobile app to hardware solutions and event art! The important thing is that you apply your skillset to solve a space-based challenge!

What can I do so I can have a better experience? Some things that will be helpful to do would be to attend the Virtual Bootcamp hosted by NASA a week prior to the Space Apps Weekend! You will receive more information on this when you Register!
