Welcome to the page for the local Cape Town event. We hope those who have Cape Town as their closest local event, have a good Space Apps Challenge. Our aim is for participants to have fun collaborating with Space data and on ideas to solve this year's challenges. If you have any questions, you can contact us on SpaceSoc@myuct.ac.za, or our local leads/ organisers at mrrgra008@myuct.ac.za or tndbri001@myuct.ac.za. Explore the site to find the FAQs and resources, as well as the chat room to talk to participants and experts from around the world. This year's challenges are listed, find one you would like to tackle on the hackathon weekend of 3rd and 4th October. Once you are signed in, you can tackle the challenge individually or, as we would encourage, in a group of 2 to 6 people. The weekend is about collaborating and having fun, but 2 teams will be nominated on the week after the event by the judges, to then further represent the Cape Town local event. The Space Apps chat on this website is open from about a week before the event, so see you there.
Enjoy the event and have fun collaborating together, good luck too!

Schedule (All times Africa/Johannesburg)
Monday, September 21st
After you have signed up, and convinced friends (older than 13) to sign up, you can start chatting on the Space Apps chat with people from around the world. There are also experts there who can give you more info on a particular challenge too. You can also start looking at which of this year's challenges you like. You can then be more ready for the actual hackathon weekend. If you have any questions, email us at SpaceSoc@myuct.ac.za.
Saturday, October 3rd
The start of the hackathon. Sign in here on the website and start hacking/ working on one of the challenges that you like, either individually or in a team (we suggest a team of 2 to a maximum of 6 people, to make it more fun). Make sure to record your work on your page in the required format, and that you are meeting the requirements for the challenge you chose. The main goal is to learn, collaborate and have fun. For all completed projects, team members will get an email to acknowledge their participation after the hackathon. If you have any questions, email us at SpaceSoc@myuct.ac.za.
Have fun.

Get some sleep, tomorrow you can finish your creation. Make sure tomorrow to have filled in the required info for your chosen Challenge, have working links to other info such as working code, have an explainer/pitch video, and to include a prototype for the judges if you want to compete for the international Space Apps Challenge. If you have any questions, email us at SpaceSoc@myuct.ac.za.
Sunday, October 4th
Day 2 of 2. We hope you are enjoying collaborating on the Cape Town space apps challenge. Remember that you can ask questions on the specific challenge questions on the Space Apps chat.
By the end of today, if you want to compete for the international Space Apps Challenge, make sure you have filled in the required info (links to any code so that it is open, a video explaining your prototype etc), polished your offering as much as possible, and included a prototype for the judges to get an idea from. If you are just competing for fun, enjoy the journey but also submit a complete application, because it might be better than you thought. At the end of the day, we're here for collaboration and fun, but recognition is also there for your offering. Good luck and have fun. If you have any questions, email us at SpaceSoc@myuct.ac.za.
Make sure your team has submitted all the required info well ahead of time. We hope you enjoyed this year at the local, Cape Town, NASA Space Apps Challenge, and that you will tell your friends and join again next year. For those who submitted complete offerings which properly address one of this year's challenges (with a prototype, working links to info, filled in properly etc), the judges will decide on our Cape Town nominations who will then go on to represent us in the global Space Apps Challenge. We will let you know who they will be. If you have any questions, email us at SpaceSoc@myuct.ac.za.
We do hope everyone enjoyed this year's Space Apps Challenge and will see you here next year again.
