What is Space Apps ?

Space Apps is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, researchers and others who are passionately involved in finding solutions for the global problems. 

The participants are expected to get registered in August 14 as teams to the local virtual event near your area. This year's hackathon will be held an all virtual event in October 2-4 in light of the Covid 19 pandemic and the interest in your personal safety. 

Theme for this year's event "Take Action" reflects the urgency of making a change while enjoying the privilege of staying safe at home. Participants will be offered to take part in the virtual Boot camp where you can attend the workshops and trainings to get an idea about the available resources.

We look forward to see teams bringing up new innovative ideas and win the title.

What is Space Apps Colombo ?

Space Apps is the world largest international hackathon organized by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Now in its 9 th year, Space Apps included 29000 participants at 225 events in 71 countries in the 8 th edition of it. Space Apps Colombo is proud to host its first ever local hackathon in this year 2020 with the guidelines of NASA and the Space Apps Global organizing team. Space Apps gives an opportunity local coders,scientists, designers, technologists, university undergraduates and students around the country to engage in NASA’s free and open data to address real world problems on earth and in space.This competition gives the partakers the opportunity to bring projects to life a wide range of applications. This provide a massive opportunity to Sri Lanka as a developing country to inspire their young generation in earth and space science exploration. And also this is their chance to experience, experiment and explore solutions and improve their creativity and critical thinking while directly participating in a program organized by organization like NASA.

Universities all around the country including the government and private universities both are participating and involved in organizing this event. Normally opportunities like this are very little for the Srilankan university students to gather and work together. Therefore,this is a priceless opportunity them too.
