Welcome to 2020 NASA International Space Apps Challenge Hackathon-Virginia Area Regional Event! Registration is open now...
Now in its 9th year, NASA Space Apps is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, entrepreneurs, and others in cities around the world, where teams engage with the NASA’s free and open data to creatively address real-world problems on Earth and in space. 2019 Space Apps included over 29,000 participants at 225 events in 71 countries. Space Apps is a NASA-led global initiative and the largest hackathon organized in collaboration with universities, schools, and industries.
2020 NASA International Space Apps Challenge will be coming to you on October 2-4, 2020 in a virtual setting. The theme for this year’s Space Apps event is “Take Action”, a critical reminder that, even from the comfort and safety of home, we can make a difference.
The North America Virginia Area Regional event will be hosted virtually.
Join or create a team, compete for prizes and to be nominated for global judging and recognition. Teams will create a short video demo for their project, and judge panel will select global finalists.
Innovators of a variety of backgrounds are encouraged to participate. Are you an engineer, technologist, scientist, creative, programmer, student, artist, or maker? Do you have experience in data science, analytics, statistics, mathematics, software development, robotics, AR/VR, information technology, videography, graphics, arts, story telling or related fields? Sign up now with your team or sign up and join a team at the event.
For participants under the age of 13?
As inprevious years, “participants who are under the age of 13 are required to be registered for the event by a parent or legal guardian and must be accompanied during the event at all times by a parent or legal guardian.” In the virtual context of Space Apps 2020, we encourage such guardians to register with their children and to remain involved in the hackathon during the full weekend.
Participants under the age of 13 can choose to take part in any Space Apps challenge, but to encourage child safety, we have created 2 youth challenges specifically designed for our younger participants. These are “Create a Mascot” and “Sustaining our Planet for Future Generations.”
