Since its inception in 2012, the International Space Apps Challenge, a part of NASA’s Earth Science Division, has become the world’s largest global hackathon. Space Apps engages thousands of individuals and teams each year across the globe to work with NASA data in the building of innovative solutions to challenges we face on Earth and in space. Diverse and collaborative teams of technologists, scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, and others work together in a 48-hour sprint to develop answers to some of the most pressing challenges facing planet Earth.

This is the 4th year of the International Space Apps Challenge in Port Harcourt. Stephen Oladele is the 2020 Lead with an amazing team at Port Harcourt School of AI putting all the work to make this a success.

Q: Do I need to live in Port Harcourt or be from the area to participate?

A: No, the challenge is all virtual, it does not matter from where you participate.

Q: How many people can be part of our team?

A: Typical Space Apps teams have 2-6 participants (the limit is 6 members per team). Space Apps Challenge is all about collaboration.

Q: Do I need a team before registration?

A: Yes, you can collaborate with communities in Port Harcourt or just get somebody that will be willing to learn or build alongside you.

  1. Hey there,

    Emails are sent out to particiapants to join the information session as we kick-off the hackathon. This is a virtual event and hence begins by 9:00 AM West African Standard Time.

    If you haven't, please navigate the challenges tab, select a challenge you want to participate in, and register your team.

    The Local Lead will be in touch with you and peer you up with mentors and volunteers that will be willing to solve your challenges.

Saturday, October 3rd
  1. Hackathon continues.

    Participants check-in with mentors and confirming participation.

Friday, September 4th
  1. Hackathon ends. Teams are sent emails which will include the names of Judges, the judging process, and when the virtual celebration ceremony to announce the local winners from Port Harcourt will hold.
