Welcome to NASA Space Apps Rome 2020

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
- Log in or Sign up on the Space Apps Challenge website
- Register¹ now to the Rome local event by selecting the "Register" button on the right side of the page.
- Recruit friends & co-workers: We encourage you to invite your friends along! Typical Space Apps teams have 2-6 participants (the limit is 6 members per team). Space Apps is all about collaboration and the most successful teams are often ones with a diverse set of skills and expertise: coding, storytelling, creativity, data, science, engineering, technology, and more.
- Solo participants are welcome: if you do not have a predefined team do not worry, individuals are welcome and you will have your opportunity on the first day of the event to find your team´s partners.
- Familiarize yourself with the Space Apps Resources. Start with the Participant FAQ .
- Choose the challenge you want to address
- Download and register in the Space Apps chat, in order to connect with other participants, with local leads, experts, etc. and above all in order to find your teammates
- On the 3rd of October at 9 a.m. the hackathon starts
- Work hard on your project and do not forget to create your team page in the website and to upload your project
¹remember to register both to the event and to our local hub
Who can participate?
Everyone can take part in the competition, because every skill is useful in order to work on a project. Register to Space Apps if you are a space enthusiast, if you re an engineer (or you're studying in order to become one), if you have communication or marketing skills (you will have to convince the judges your idea is cool!) or if you're looking for a chance to test yourself.
We welcome participants from any location, but in order to be eligible for the local award at least one member of the team must be resident in Italy.
How can you join the competition?
Register to the event by signing up to the Space Apps platform, check your email to activate your account, and then select "Rome" as your location. Register as an individual, then you will have the chance to form your team. If you already have one you can add your teammates to your team. We suggest you to create teams with 3 to 5 people (the limit however is 6) and with different skills in order to work on your project taking into account all the different aspects of it.
If you don't have a team already: don't worry! We will help you and make sure you can find someone as passionate as you on the challenge you want your project to respond to.
Resources
From the 24th of September you will be able to download the Space Apps chat at chat.spaceappschallenge.org. In order to access the chat you need to have your Space Apps credentials.
In the Space Apps chat rooms, you will be able to connect with other participants and a number of community members who are available to support your journey. This includes:
- The Global Organizing Team (GO-Team): The team behind Space Apps dedicated to guiding and supporting you through a successful Space Apps journey!
- The GO-Team’s work is bolstered by a committed Community of Volunteers:
○ Subject-Matter Experts: NASA and partner agency experts, including many who have developed the challenges and have knowledge about the “Example Resources” provided for each challenge statement.
○ Local Leads: Volunteers based in cities all around the globe who organize the Space Apps local virtual events (known as locations).
○ Ambassadors: Volunteers supporting you over the course of Space Apps weekend by providing their expertise in Space Apps and NASA data.
On the website you can have access to all the other resources that can be needed in order to work on your project.
Local Judging Criteria & Awards
Judging Criteria:
- Impact: How much impact (quality and quantity) can this project have? Does it solve a big problem or a little problem? Will it inspire or help many, or a few?
