This challenge is to create a tool to help the astronomers so our project is to build a robot that facilitates astronomers’ work. we developed a robot that looks like a spider which will work on collecting data about other planets in terms of temperature, soil, air pressure, and the environment in general. It is important as it will facilitate the astronaut’s hard work so they don’t have to travel to space by themselves. in addition, there will be a camera that will take photos of the planets. It works by controlling it through remote and by providing it by sensors that will collect the data and then transfer it to astronomers through satellites. What we hope to achieve is the ability to study space planets without the need of the astronomers to travel and carry huge equipment to discover the space, so, reduce the possibility of the death of astronauts.
we chose this challenge because we wanted to make a tool that helps in exploring the space and collecting data that will help astronomers in their researches of outer space, so after thinking of how to do this we thought of building a robot that will perform many tasks to help to gather information and these tasks are collecting samples from planets, taking photos and studying environment. The approach to developing this project is creating a robot that performs many tasks at the same time. first, we looked for the shape of the robot and we decided to make it with 8 legs to move fast and balanced like a spider, then we searched for codes to make this robot and we used Arduino as a coding language for the robot. in addition, we searched for sensors to add to the robot, and from these sensors DS18B20 Sensors and dht22 sensors and we added a camera called the OV7670 camera module. The problem that faced us was about the space robot’s mechanism but we searched in the NASA agency about robots that used in space we achieved what we have done now.
We used NASA space agency in searching for problems that faced the astronauts and how could we solve it we also used it in developing our robot in how could the robot dig in other planets. as we found that NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) had communicated with the audience during the RASSOR cylinder design challenge. It was hosted on Grab CAD To improve the robot’s design to allow it to carry larger capacity than it used to carry. Also, we used the NASA space agency in collecting data about space robots and we found that each robot work on only one task so we decided to work on a robot that could perform more tasks at the same time.
