Virtual Planetary Exploration

Your challenge is to create interactive 3D models of equipment (e.g., planetary geology tools) that future space explorers can use for activities like exploring a planetary surface.

Sistema auxiliar de locomoção

Summary

The Roves are very important to provide information about Mars, so our project was to develop a retractable mechanism attached to the Rover, to help it pass through surfaces that supposedly hinder its research route, which are sand surfaces, on which jammed the Rovers, and extremely smooth stones. The mechanism is a shovel located on its wheels, being produced with a rubber material to aid desatolarão and also to help to climb on rocks, along with the shovels would have a propulsion system located at the rear of the Rover that would use its own carbon dioxide produced by the rover which has a system that works with the local atmosphere, so it would help them to pass through soil derivatives

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed 2 systems, in which it would help Rovers to pass through surfaces, where today they have a certain difficulty. It would be a paddle attached to the wheels made of rubber that would push the Rover forward and a propellant that would already use its own mechanisms to give it a boost, this would be important, as soon as it speeds up the research process done on the red planet, thus minimizing time and expenses on top of it.

How We Developed This Project

Our team was always more intrigued to solve problems than just research, and when we decided to choose the theme, we liked “Virtual Planetary Exploration” dearly, as it would be a great challenge ahead. The searches were made with the help of sites such as Nasa, Mars Nasa, CSA and zooniverse, the slide shows were made in Powerpoint and the 3D presentation was made on the Tinkercad website. Finally, our biggest problem would be the question of time, but we planned well and managed to present the best view in our perspectives.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project
  • We use the NASA website as a research source and the CSA, in order to take data from the rover and know the dimensions of theirs, to apply in our project in a more realistic way.
