Automated Detection of Hazards

Countless phenomena such as floods, fires, and algae blooms routinely impact ecosystems, economies, and human safety. Your challenge is to use satellite data to create a machine learning model that detects a specific phenomenon and build an interface that not only displays the detected phenomenon, but also layers it alongside ancillary data to help researchers and decision-makers better understand its impacts and scope.

Summary

The IDLL software aims to predict natural catastrophes before they happen, gathering forecast data from multiples sources including atmospheric data collected trough the nasa satelites, also innovating by using animal behavior sensors in forests that work trough ML, all in one software. After collected, the data is sent to the software that, through ML, would judge wether the data is normal or if there is a need to alert a specialist. If a specialist is needed, he will evaluate the available data, noticing if it was a false alarm or if the danger is real, and if it is, people in the region would receive a natural disaster notification and we would have total information about the disaster.

How We Addressed This Challenge

It's a software that aims to predict natural catastrophes before they happen trough collected data from seismographs, Darts, Weather studies and Nasa's satelites and using animal behavior sensors in forests using ML, all in one software. After collected, the data is sent to the software that, through ML, would judge wether the data is normal or if there is a need to alert a specialist. If a specialist is needed, he will evaluate the available data, noticing if it was a false alarm or if the danger is real, and if it is, people in the region would receive a natural disaster notification, the local authorithies would be called and we would have all the information about the disaster, we hope to help and save many lives together with nasa.

How We Developed This Project

We were inspired by our desire to help others and to use Nasa's technologic to detect natural catastrophes and help all people in need. We had to change approach multiple times cause of the deadlines and subjects, we used discord, visual studio and Nasa's website.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Yes, we used Nasa's Cloud for storage, Nasa's API to consume data and last but not least Nasa's Hazard preventing satelitr imagery to be able to detect Hazards way before they happen to be able to save the most amount of people.
