Automated Detection of Hazards

Countless phenomena such as floods, fires, and algae blooms routinely impact ecosystems, economies, and human safety. Your challenge is to use satellite data to create a machine learning model that detects a specific phenomenon and build an interface that not only displays the detected phenomenon, but also layers it alongside ancillary data to help researchers and decision-makers better understand its impacts and scope.

Fingertip Fire App

Summary

Having as problem the fires and how they occur, either criminally or spontaneously, a singularity was observed between the foci, which present their generality with Brazilian biomes, therefore, with the use of machine learning, it was possible to develop a machine that was capable of, through the common points, observe and indicate a fire focus, classify them, using the specifically climate conditions of every Brazilian biome and then, over your base layer, recalculating the proportions and proposing a probability of those fires being caused by natural or human means, offering solutions to fight the problem, as well as suggestions for the local authorities as a form of agile response.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The proposal of a machine learning system capable of, through the generic data made available by the monitoring agencies, perform systematic analysis of arsons, aiming to alert local population aiming to alert populations about the environmental risk in the surroundings, of the most variated types, be it from the fire itself, be it smoke, evasion of animals, risks of acid rain and alike.

How We Developed This Project

Looking at the problem of fire outbreaks and observing that the population, facing the inefficiency of various public agencies combating the fires that occurred in Brazilian and world biomes, we from Gaia Enterprise, we saw a solution amid the problems. Through the NASA FIRM data capture system, on which can be obtained from 2015 to the present, of fire foci, our API seeks to summarize and map local weather data, such as temperature, relative air humidity, precipitation and average wind speed in meters per second crossing with historical data, in order to promote fire indicatives in several areas. In addition to its main source, which is to report fires, this search technology for previous records becomes essential when proving a probability of an intentional or spontaneous fire, when the same warning reaches the available authorities. To relate the data and show the final result, data from INPE and INMet were used regarding meteorological data, in order to determine a generic factor, which applies to several types of Brazilian biomes, therefore, for other biomes or even to differentiate specific characteristics, it is possible to reconsider other data in order to recalculate the final result.

Although it is still a prototype, the development proved to be promising, since the search for data is done exclusively in reliable climatic sources, such as meteorological and space research institutes and centers.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Through the NASA FIRM data capture system, on which can be obtained from 2015 to the present, of fire foci, our API seeks to summarize and map local weather data, such as temperature, relative air humidity, precipitation and average wind speed in meters per second crossing with historical data, in order to promote fire indicatives in several areas.

Project Demo

We see that science, each year and each evolution of technological lines, has become increasingly selective, in which its centrality is found in technological centers and universities.

Using science to develop something that can contribute to human development, maintaining quality of life, environmental education and the spread of technology in an accessible way, the Fingertip Fire App demonstrates its impact, thus making it possible for people of any economic and social class , the satisfaction of being able to contribute to the identification of fires and, together with the local authorities, prove that the inspection and preservation of the environment is a duty of human beings, each of us.

Such an impact can be seen and applied to each city, region, state or country, so that the technology used allows mapping and showing information regarding your location, predefined by your telephone line, thus, the universality and the engagement line that we want to propose, it is a direct awareness for people, making them the main character for fighting fires, mostly criminals.
