Automated Detection of Hazards

Countless phenomena such as floods, fires, and algae blooms routinely impact ecosystems, economies, and human safety. Your challenge is to use satellite data to create a machine learning model that detects a specific phenomenon and build an interface that not only displays the detected phenomenon, but also layers it alongside ancillary data to help researchers and decision-makers better understand its impacts and scope.

TIME DEFORMS

Summary

We build up a game that has two parts one for the map which detects the future expected phenomena so it will help scientists in detecting. the second part is for users which make them travel through time to the past to solve problems then return back to the present to see its impacts on earth we used satellite data of floods and the other hazards for prediction and we build up our game using unity and blender. we made an algorithm for it to achieve the conditions of the game, our game is levels that the user passes by and our condition for the user to succeed in passing the 50% of the level. our game aims to increase the awareness between people and build an interface to help researchers.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project will participate in (Automated Detection of Hazards), our mission and goal is to use satellite data to create a machine learning model that detects a specific phenomenon and build an interface that not only displays the detected phenomenon, but also layers it alongside ancillary data to help researchers and decision-makers better understand its impacts and scope. Therefore, we define our problem as the need for a user-friendly, and sustainable consumer-grade smart system that can effectively increase awareness, monitor, collect data, and provide predictions for future hazards through gathered information (data satellite and algorithms made) and though making the user interact with the game character and feel the reasons for these disasters.

we offer TIME DEFORMS game which is an interactive, user-friendly one with two main parts. The first part (informative) is data-based Maps which monitor ,and collect all the data of the past hazards “floods, wildfires” and provide predictions & detections for future expected hazards .Also, these maps provides the needed information of their main reasons and their effect on different countries, and how this country overcome this problem or hazard by providing near-real time images from satellite.

The second part (gamification) is an interactive game with low poly graphics, the “poly” from low poly comes from the word “polygon,” which is merely a 2-dimensional shape made of straight lines and angles. This game has a story mode which is a story of a city that was exposed to a hazard before whether this hazard was a wildfire or a flood or a hurricane. Then the gamer would try to solve these hazards by traveling in time in the past to find the reasons of this hazard and find a solution for it, then the he will be able to see the result of his solving and based on his progress and the missions described ,he would level up otherwise he would fail after 3 trials. The user will make all of that via a character who was from the survivals from the selected hazard. Besides, our future plans: to increase number of hazards’ information and predictions, and users are able to upload real time images or videos for any occurring hazards in the informative part of the game.

So, after all of that we can say that our project suits and cover all of the challenge and more. The part of the game will teach the user many things as the awareness of the hazards and how we can deal with it, teaching patriotism. And the other part of the maps and data will help all of researchers and student also the scientists in detecting the future hazards and study the hazards in the past. We will use NASA resources and satellites to collect our information.

We hope to add many fields in this game. We want to add many challenges not only the Automated Detection of Hazards to increase the awareness by these challenges. We hope to publish this game on the app and play stores as this is the only game which aims to increase the awareness by earth challenges and encourage the users to solve them. Also, we want to make many levels in this game and publish various difficulty levels to make the game suits the different ages and the different way of thinking of the users.

How We Developed This Project

Each one in our team entered the NASA space apps competition because we are passionate with the same thing which is solving a big problem in world so while searching we found that the most common problem that most of the world suffer from are the hazards as they have many types and properly each country live in the danger of one of its types but some countries can't find someone to help them so while seeing the challenges and going deeper in research about hazards we found that there is a large number of people who die each year and there are large number of children who became homeless after their parents died however the scientists try to predict the most of hazards but there are still large number of hazards that are not detected or because of people who sometime are the reasons for those hazards like wildfires , scientists couldn't prevent their occurence fast that’s why finally, we have chosen the challenge of automated detection of hazards as the best fit for helping scientists to predict more hazards and save people lives .

the challenge was asking for idea to help scientists in detecting hazards but we thought that if the scientist only predicted the hazards without knowing the reasons behind the increasing of those hazards on earth the problem won’t be solved that’s why in our game in additional to the main part of map and detection of hazards we made another part which take people to the past to solve the main problem behind those hazards and that was an improvement part In our project . we made our game by machine learning model using python programming language and for the game itself we used unity and blender to build it up using c sharp language.

While working on our project we have a problem of time management as we wanted to at least make the 1st level of the game so we started to divide tasks on us according to each ones experience until we finished the 1st level of the game .
