Home Planet at Your Fingertips

Develop a user-friendly application or tool to discover, visualize, and analyze NASA Earth data for monitoring our home planet.

Hello Earth!

Summary

Our app aims to provide a multi-functional platform for the youth. We want them to learn more about their surroundings, and also show them the capabilities of Earth's destructive powers.By using Real-Time Information on Natural Disasters (EONET) and creating a fun, incentive-based, virtual reality game which uses image recognition, which aims primarily on exploring the surrounding area, we have achieved those goals successfully. We hope to keep working on the app to introduce more features and optimize the present ones.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed an app which allows people to see real time updates on any upcoming natural disasters or preview any that took place in past. Along with that, we also made a game that promotes people to explore their surroundings and get to know their planet and its species better.

Primarily, we hope to achieve lower casualty count in event of a natural calamity, and to keep people informed about how these calamities have affected areas in the past. We also hope to achieve people getting out more and appreciating the beauty present around all of us.

How We Developed This Project

People nowadays don't appreciate the outdoors, and to remind people of what they're missing out on, we developed our project.

We primarily used Python to run the ML model, but also used HTML, CSS and JavaScript to work on features of the front end, and Adobe XD to provide the user interface.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used NASA's EONET API. It provided us with the coordinates of the natural disaster and helped us map our solution.
