Home Planet at Your Fingertips

Develop a user-friendly application or tool to discover, visualize, and analyze NASA Earth data for monitoring our home planet.

Home Planet at your Fingertips!

Summary

he main/final/ready to use product/focus of the project of the team “STEER EARTH” will be an Android App. As this challenge is all about Data use(WHICH NASA HAS PROVIDED) and its visualization & analysis, mainly there will be two modes in the App. One mode is where the user can explore earth with their FINGERTIPS by accessing the 3D globe. There will be a list of nearly 10-15 earthly things like Land Temperature, Sea Temperature, Carbon Monoxide, Ozone, clouds etc from which users can select and the 3d globe will show the levels with different colors and gradient levels for each part of the world.Second mode is where users can select a particular location and see the precipitation le

How We Addressed This Challenge

As this challenge is about collecting datasets from NASA's resources and use them for a better analysis and visualization, we have created an App to fetch the data and present them in the form of colored/gradient globes and different charts and graphs. The users will also be able to view the precise data about a particular location and to save them to cloud for future research use.

How We Developed This Project

The inspiration behind this project is the visualization of data. It's already known that the satellites around the Earth are continuously sending the data but those are just numbers! Within this Project, an App is created for visualization and analysis.

Languages used- JAVA, PYTHON

SOFTWARES USED- Android Studio, Postman Tool

Problems Faced- The main problem the team is having is to store and retrieve huge datasets as online servers don't allow such amount of space.

Achievement- Created successfully one API and Visualized data by using it into the App.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

The Space agency NASA's dataset is used in this project. This project uses them to extract the precise value of all datasets including Precipitation levels, Ozone analysis, Live Fires etc. The Project also uses NASA's WorldWind API to create Globes.
