Sustaining Our Planet for Future Generations

There is concern worldwide that environmental issues we face today will have an impact on future generations. Your challenge is to create a way to communicate the importance of environmental responsibility to people of all ages.

Sustain Water, Sustain Future

Summary

Our main goal is to create a digital platform to reach people from all generations and encourage them to "take action". We think one of the biggest problem of our planet is water pollution. But if we come together and combine our ideas , we can find inspiritional solutions to these problems. The thing that inspired us was NASA' s "water recycling in space" project . We noticed how much important to have clean water so we planned to create a digital website to inform people and make a website where people can mention their ideas , share thoughts, come up to find solutions for cleaning water, reach more people and sustaining our planet to leave other generations a great place to live in.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The New World is developing so fast and reduce some innovations. First of this innovations -we called that- “New Media” is helping people to communicate in some platforms completely laborless. That platforms can easily reach people and spread knowledge from 7 to 70. In this context people can raise awareness or they can share their opinions with these platforms. Hereby users in a little while reach efficient feedbacks.

New World brings along some beneficial stuffs, right. But unfortunately New World has lots of bad sides too. One of them is Water Contamination. Lots of documentaries, clips are about this pollution and regrettably this pollution causes lots of backfires.

We saw the video "Water Contaminaton: NASA Space Technology Helping People" and In that inspirational video, it says that all the people who need clean water need a cheap test kit. And that solution came from NASA. The microbial water analysis kit that uses off-the-shelf components. Then we search for more information and we found out "SPACE BIOSCIENCES: Bioengineering Branch/Water Recycling" research in NASA's page. That really inspired us and we strongly believed that one of the most important issues is water pollution. If there are people outside waiting for clean water to survive , why are we polluting the blue treasure that we have? We came together with this idea and started thinking about sustaining our environment by avoid polluting water. So, we started combining ideas and doing a brainstorm to create a digital platform to reach and inform people from all generations. We hope that as more people have awareness about water, more years with freshwater. We have only one world and finite water sources. We have to protect them for the people hundreds years later. With this website we hope that we can make it.

How We Developed This Project

We were always interested in sustaning and protecting our sources. But we actually didn't know how to take action. This hacakthon gave us the oppurtunity to share our ideas and try to inform people by creating platforms , apps. Our opinion is that we should come up together and combine our ideas to make the world a better place to live in.

One of the things that inspired us to choose this challenge was " NASA Study Maps Hidden Water Pollution in U.S. Coastal Areas" data in NASA's page. We analyze the map in NASA's data together and we were really surprised, concerned and worried about future generations . Then we realized that one of the most important issues of the world is water pollution. As a team, we wanted to inform people from all genereations about water pollution, types, causes, effects by creating a digital platform. We used "GoDaddy" domain provider to create our website. We reach the domains that NASA provides us by accessing "GoDaddy". Our team faced some difficulties while orginizing the website but it was a great challenge and we had fun while finding solutions to sustain our planet for future generations.

We provide our communication by using "Miro's team plan ",another tool that NASA gives us to develop our project. We didn't use coding, hardware or software because we have lack information about that topics. Our teams members gained designing, researching goals and we learned how to use scientific datas and integrate them to ideas of creation.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

NASA's "SPACE BIOSCIENCES: Bioengineering Branch/Water Recycling" (https://www.nasa.gov/ames/research/space-biosciences/bioengineering-branch#.VDbIgL4eXww) research was the data that influences us first. "Water cycle in Space" (https://www.nasa.gov/content/water-recycling/) was our starting point.

These projects made us realize that clean water is important and it is hard to recycle it. By searching this project, we specify our main problem to focus on. Then we made some research and we found "NASA Study Maps Hidden Water Pollution in U.S. Coastal Areas" (https://www.nasa.gov/feature/jpl/study-maps-hidden-water-pollution-in-us-coastal-areas) data in NASA's page.

Also we found other projects that may inspire people who visits the website such as ESA' and NASA's "The Water Recovery System"(https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Human_and_Robotic_Exploration/International_Space_Station_Benefits_for_Humanity/Advanced_NASA_Technology_Supports_Water_Purification_Efforts_Worldwide). And we add these datas as "INSPIRATIONS" to our informative website. We used "Visible Earth NASA " website to find great images to (https://visibleearth.nasa.gov/images/2780/ocean-sand-bahamas (WEB IMAGE) ) make our digital platform more attractive.
