Sustaining Our Planet for Future Generations

There is concern worldwide that environmental issues we face today will have an impact on future generations. Your challenge is to create a way to communicate the importance of environmental responsibility to people of all ages.

Air Quality System (A.Q.S.)

Summary

Caring about a traumatic problem in our research like air pollution that is denoted as the third most common reason behind death to alleviate its bad reverberations is of essence. Our solution is about making a device connected to an application. This device is in charge of collecting information about Carbon dioxide and The Liquified petroleum gas; this information will be delivered to the application where it will notify the ministry of environment about the increase of these emissions and how that affects the environment that is being addressed.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Air pollution is all around us. Indoors, outdoors, in cities and in the countryside. It affects us all, whether we realize it or not. For the longest time, we have taken the air we breathe for granted. There was air, there were smells, there was a cold wind, there was hot air.

But recent research has started to shed light on some rather worrisome aspects of what the air around us really contains, and how it affects our bodies. And the more we learn, the more we come to realize that this essential source of life for the planet needs some serious taking care of. Without air there can be no life but breathing polluted air condemns us to a life of disease and early death.

Now that we know how air pollution harms us, there is no excuse not to act. Below are five great reasons to reduce and eliminate air pollution from our lives.

Polluted air is creating a health emergency

There is no doubt today that air pollution is a global public health emergency. It threatens everyone from unborn babies to children walking to school, to women cooking over open fires.

On the street and inside the house, the sources of air pollution can be very different, yet their effects are equally deadly: asthma, other respiratory illnesses and heart disease are among the adverse health effects known to be caused by polluted air.

According to the World Health Organization, every year around 7 million premature deaths are attributable to air pollution—a staggering 800 people every hour or 13 every minute. Overall, air pollution is responsible for more deaths than many other risk factors, including malnutrition, alcohol use and physical inactivity.

Children are most at risk

Globally, 93 per cent of all children breathe air that contains higher concentrations of pollutants than the World Health Organization (WHO) considers safe to human health. As a result, 600,000 children die prematurely each year because of air pollution. As if that were not enough, exposure to dirty air also harms brain development, leading to cognitive and motor impairments, while at the same time putting children at greater risk for chronic disease later in life.

Household air pollution is particularly harmful to women and children due to their traditional home-based roles in many cultures. About 60 percent of household air pollution-related deaths globally are among women and children, and more than half of all pneumonia deaths in children under five can be attributed to indoor air pollution.

That’s why we have taken into cognizance the importance of employing our minds and devote much time into researching about solutions germane to such a heinous monster that is threatening all of us irrespective of our territories. We tried to focus on both deploying innovative approaches along with getting advantages from the prior solutions to this problem to be able to make something efficacious in palliating such a problem. We have employed Mq6 to measure LPG(Liquified Petroleum Gas), Mq9 to measure Co2, along with a piece of Arduino uno for prototyping. Our main languages were C and C++ since they are the paramount ones for employing the Arduino’s board

How We Developed This Project

In a world where riddles, and impediments to better have been part and parcel of life, pollution is not a newly met-with woe; it has been a dagger dawn and a heinous monster jeopardizing the humanity presence, developed, and developing countries alike. This encumbrance’s ramification and ravages are ubiquitous and repugnant. The dearth in employing modern technology in remedies for such a minefield has become palpable where there is a paucity in efficacious solutions. For the sake of time and effort, we have decided on specifying our work; air pollution was rested upon as a picked-and-chosen challenge after rumination and musing. Air pollution assumes airs all people of all ages. It kills about 7 million people every year. All countries around the world are gridded themselves and mustering their forces to jettison or palliate this conundrum.

The goal of our project is to solve the problem of air pollution as it is now one of the perilous, pernicious minefields worldwide. Helping workers in factories en bloc since they are the most people affected by the damages of CO2 is paramount. The statistics from the WHO states that the workers in factories suffer from a plethora of health problems and diseases. 37% of all cases of back pain, 16% of hearing loss, 13% of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, 9% of lung cancer, 2% of leukemia and 8% of depression. So, we are trying to help them so that they could do their work without any worries.

Our target in this stage is to help people who are most exposed to the damages of factory gases and emissions which take the lion’s share in air contamination and also helping people that are home today because of corona. A system will be erected that detects CO2 and collects data about it, the location, the quantity of CO2, and the time of detecting. Then the data will be sent to a mobile app; this application will give a warning if Co2 is still present in the atmosphere. Afterwards, this data will be sent to The Environment Organization and they will deal with this problem.

In this system, the following sensors will be: MQ-6, MQ-9, and DHT 11. These are the sensors that will be used with the following functions: for MQ-6 it will measure the butane and LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) levels in the place our system is put in. for MQ-9 will measure the CO2 concentration in the air. DHT 11 will be responsible for measuring temperature which will be set to raise an alarm at 1970 Celsius because such temperature if reached in factories could cause a lot of health abysses. For all these sensors to function, coding them with the proper programming language is of essence. C++ was the linchpin, the first and last language in operating our project. We made the app in MIT App inventor.

air pollution’s exacerbation mounted and augmented the risks of dying by dint of coronavirus, begot a-fifteen-percent increase in the death rate of COVID-19 infection pursuant of the ABC news. Ergo this would be a stupendous opportunity for our solution which is focused on soothing the air pollution problem.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Comparing multiple examples typically support learning and transfer in research and is considered a key feature of high-quality solutions that are inspired by such previous trails for solving the same problem. Definitely, we addressed a lot of solutions to air pollution bearing in mind both their merits and demerits for racing a better analysis in making our solution of the best possible quality. The provided resources were so beneficial for us because they addressed some pretty decent solutions to air pollution.

The article whose title was "Life Support Systems

Sustaining Humans Beyond Earth" was so beneficial in terms of architectures for different space mission classes along with assessing life support system technologies. Also, it helped us in developing and demonstrating onboard analysis capabilities that will replace the need to return air and water samples to Earth for ground analysis.
